  1. I was able to fire up the forge Saturday, after being shut down from a shoulder injury, and made a mouse hawk that was commissioned in March, the day after injuring my shoulder. Now to make the sheath and deliver it. I also have 8 full size hawks on order that I have to get started on, but I've informed all my customers that I am working back into it slowly to ensure I don't re-injure my shoulder.
  2. A good replacement if you can’t find any is the non stick spray for pans when cooking. My old welding rep told me about it in the 80’s, all I’ve used since I’d hate to be riding in that wagon during certain times of the season
  3. Billy, you couldn’t have made a better statement about the value of this site and the experienced people that give their time and advice to help us learn and improve. Im not good with responding to posts and complimenting everyone on their work, but I look every day and am amazed at the work I see.
  4. I used to have to check where the cats had been, but both are gone now. Didn’t have to worry about deposits from one, but the other loved to leave surprises, sometimes even after I’d checked everything out.
  5. And all Cajuns! if you’ve never been to crayfish boil plan on attending on of our Louisiana Metalsmiths Association, (LAMA), conferences the second weekend of March each year, Saturday night dinner is a crayfish boil. Last year we did crayfish and shrimp, that was well received, so we may continue that
  6. Twisted, I think that’s way overkill for a shop heater. I’ve made several from 18-24 in pipe 30” long that was more than enough to heat a shop , and tin camps in the woods, your size and only use 6-8 pieces of regular firewood per day. We’d throw a couple of sticks of wood in before bed and sleep comfortably all night. I would weld a piece of walkway grating on top and we had a place to keep food and water hot also. I’d cut that big tank up for fire rings and make pokers to go with them
  7. Alexandr, the architecture in your country is beautiful, I thank you for sharing it with us. I’m always amazed at the pictures you send of your work and your country, I wish that I was able to walk around and enjoy it with you. Did you help the blacksmith work on any projects while you were there?
  8. Chris Marks had developed a process for multi colored mosaic for knife blades before his passing. I saw an update from his sister a couple of weeks ago that they still have material for sell. You’ll have to look online for contact information if your interested, I don’t have it
  9. Billy, your doing good, I’ve been watching and amazed at your imagination and the quality of your work
  10. I need horn to make big radius and to forgecircle Natkova, I have several pieces of different size pipe that I use for that
  11. Lyle has been working at a plant in Texas the last couple of years, but this summer he was off and has been doing some classes in our area and making some tools and was one of the demonstrators at the Crossroads conference earlier this year. I talked with him a couple weeks ago and he was getting ready to go to Florida the next morning to do a class then back to Texas to work. Twisted, I bet you had a good time with Brian and Ed Pat, that can be used as a pintle hitch or as a regular 2” ball by leaving the top section open.
  12. Anvil, thanks for posting this, I’ve been thinking about how to do a similar project, and was trying to figure out how to do it without brazing the brass or copper into the groove and keep warp out, plus the cleanup to define the line.
  13. Thanks for the details IFC, another item added to my “gonna try it” list
  14. IFC, I like the cross, how did you connect the side arms, forge or electric weld?
  15. Jobtiel1, that’s a great looking blade, I hope your able to take care of the cracks with grinding and not throw it away, do the cracks go to the other side also or just on the one side?
  16. Alexandr, that rain looks like what I’ve been getting almost every day for the last three weeks, but it does make everything grow
  17. The weight is stamped on it in English hundred weight all you have to do is convert it, as far as value that is based on the condition of the anvil and where you are located. Location and condition makes a big difference in price. Pictures help us give advice
  18. Happy anniversary TP, spoil your wife this evening and start making plans on how to celebrate the next 38 ++
  19. I agree wit John that it will be easier to sink them than to do it over the ball.
  20. I just found out that Mark Ling, “The Little Blacksmith”, will be one of the demonstrators at Quad State this year. I recommend that all of you attending make time to meet with him and watch his demonstration.
  21. Thanks IFC and Chad, it felt good to get back doing a little in the forge. Good looking candle holder and vice stand, I’m sure that will hold up to what you need it to do.
