  1. Cavpilot, you can use a piece of mild steel flat bar to make the spring, it doesn't need to be special steel or heat treated/tempered
  2. I would leave the teeth and make a set of soft jaws to insert when you don’t want the project market by the teeth
  3. I have been looking for an original crank handle for my grandfather's Champion 400 for several years, but haven't had any luck, until I asked Twisted about one. It arrived yesterday afternoon. A big shout out and thanks goes to him!
  4. Chimaera, make a 30 degree bevel along the length of the brake, on both pieces 1/2 the thickness. Put the two together, but leave a small gap, and weld that side them flip over and do the same grind on the other side, making sure you grind to clean metal on the first weld. I would follow the same process if using solder or brass. This will give you a 100 percent weld. Start your weld from the outer edge, weld to center, then go to opposite edge and weld to center to prevent a divot on the outer edge
  5. Chimaera, I would grind a bevel 1/2way through one side, weld that side turn it over and grind the crack to clean metal weld, normalize then re heat treat and temper. Shaina, your slot jaw tongs look a lot better than the set I did Billy, that’s a good looking knife
  6. I agree with Anvil, that is a very nice chisel
  7. Another beauty that can't wait to be put to use.
  8. Shaina, it doesn’t matter, just put a light coat because it will attract dirt, scale, etc
  9. Both of my anvils are mounted on steel tripods 130 lb Mousehole on a 1 1/2 inch base with 2 inch pipe legs, 230 lb Soderfors on a 1 inch base with 2 inch square tube legs, neither have the legs capped off on the bottom, both are on a concrete floor. The Soderfors has silicone under the anvil the Mousehole is directly on the base, both are held in place with a 1 inch flat bar against the waist and both are very quiet and do not move while working with them
  10. Getting ready for this month's club meeting I made a candle holder for iron in the hat. I donated the dragon letter opener I made for Twisted's challenge to last month's meeting. Our oldest member, who's initials are RAM, thought it was a ram's head (he didn't have his reading glasses on) and tried to win it, but he wasn't able to, so he asked me to make another for him, so I tried a ram's head for him. Both were fun projects.
  11. Nice openers Frosty and Shaina Shaina, have you thought about turning the blade 90 degrees to make it look more like a tail on the gator? Twisted, thanks for coming up with this idea, I had fun participating and seeing all of the great ideas everyone came up with
  12. Wicon, Great job on the opener and on using your imagination to create a masterpiece.
  13. Bluerooster, If you’re embarrassed by that I’m waiting to see what you’re proud of. Great job
  14. Stampman,

I am interested in ordering a touchmark from you.I have visited your site, I'm not sure how to order what I want, so I need some advice. I want something I can hold in my hand , 5-6 inches long, to mark hot metal, I think this would be your R Buster series. The touchmark I want is a 3/8 to 7/16 inch circle that has 2 offset L's that just fit inside the circle. the L's look like the number 4 with the long leg making an L. I've attached a drawing.

    I can be contacted at (225) 241-3333 or llejeune1957@gmail.com

    Thanks,

    Les LeJeune

  15. I'm using a 3 inch long piece of 5/16 X 2 leaf spring on the mouse hawks and a 4 inch long piece on the full size.
  16. Goods, thanks, for the mouse hawks I use 3/16 X 1 X 7 mild steel for the wrap and insert a HC bit, most times 5160 from an old leaf spring On a full size hawk I use 1/4 X 1 1/2 X 11 mild for the wrap and insert a HC bit The handles are from Dunlap
  17. Nice work everyone! I had a busy day in the forge yesterday, only nine more to go. Today will be making the sheaths for them
  18. Iron Dragon, Somehow I missed seeing this until today, very nice job, I'm going to put this in the bank for when I get my 2 x 72 built
  19. Great job DHarris. You must have read my mind, when I saw the first picture I thought that it would look good with brass, or copper, rivets Alexandre, beautiful work, as always.
  20. It has the look of a Mousehole, but without visible markings it's only a guess.
  21. Alexandr, I get a smile on my face every time I see you have posted something new because I know I’ll see some amazing work
  22. I showed the pictures to my wife after I responded and she laughed harder than I did, thanks for getting our morning off to a good start. her favorites were the small skeletons around the mail box and the skeleton pushing the lawnmower. Great imagination
