  1. Ya know I'm not sure, I was guessing buy the depression and serial but its in that trifecta toss up ya know? The only A&H's I have laid hands on have been smaller, marked and shaped a bit different, this shape more resembles my Trenton but the double oval not quite hourglass threw me~ Open to wisdom.
  2. Picked this one up last night $1.60 a lb, Glad as I am to have it I'm VERY upset at being told flat out lies from Kady Lynn Auctions in Bloomington In. I talked with the auctioneer over the phone where I was told that him and a friend put it on a scale and it was around 350# "because the scale was only rated for 280 and it was over that!" After the 3.5 hour car ride from Ky I can tell from the moment I walk in its smaller than my 340# Trent, when I bring this up to the man during the auction he boldly states "Its not about how much it weighs!" flabbergasted I wanted to offer 50 cents a pound and see if he still thought so! Anyway, sorry for the rant but please take this buyer beware for that auction company, a few pounds here and there sure but to tell me 100lbs different? Thought it was neat to see it was used by a lefty by the dressings on her though why they chopped the heck out of the feet Ill never know, part of my serial was removed as well but any info from what you can read would be great, thanks in advance!
  3. Not sure, but as far as Ky and In goes post vises are still under $50.00 90% of the time even post drills are in that range, the anvils though just keep going up. who knows?
  4. Nail on the head! this is the 6th anvil in my current possession and I just bought another tonight with pics coming tomorrow and serial number help will be needed soon as I can remember to SAVE the $65 Im getting me that darned AIA I use most every tool I buy but money is hard at times and I also sell restored tools/forges and anvils to current and former students from the shoeing school down the road so they don't have to fight Ebay prices and shipping if at all possible but in the case of a rare anvil that could be worth a lot to someone but much less to me I'm all for hunting out that deal so I could buy more and feed this addiction most of us here share! But thanks for everyone on the input its asked for so its welcome I hope to continue to share the same. Wesley
  5. So after a lot of looking around I'm wondering... How rare are these Badgers? Anyone else used any or have more pics of them? I've not put this one to use yet but will this week.
  6. Thanks, I think I saw someone looking for the color at some point, under the grime this one was a darker green hope it helps.
  7. Email Sent to your BKS email, IFI says you cannot accept any new PM's

  8. New to me Armstrong Marvel Draw Cut No. 1 cant wait to get it cleaned and painted, I love how train like this looks while running!
  9. I wouldn't have thought an American made anvil would be so hard to find info on. I'm guessing American Skein & Foundry Co. did more of everything else rather than anvils?
  10. Thanks again Thomas, managed to find this on ebay answered my questions about the horn too. Now if I can find a date for when the #17's were made.
  11. At first glance I thought Fisher but no major markings other than a 17 on the foot and the round under hardy 160#
  12. I like the idea of it being removable, I needed it to be low profile in order to be able to pack the legs/blower/tuyere back into the forge box. If I can find the steel for it laying around I think Ill do something like you have but with an inverted cone shape with the cutouts, very handy indeed. this, but bigger youtubevid
  13. While working on this 571 buffalo I found that the base of the box is far too rusted out and Ill need to add a new plate to beef up my burn zone. My question is while Im doing this would it be worth adding a bit of a ramp to serve as a sort of firepot to hold in my coal while it cokes up. I have used the flat bed forges before and they were always a bit tedious compared to a forge with any type of pot, shallow or deep. My basic idea is to weld together some angle to serve as this ramp/shallow pot formation, if I had the option I would simply cut out a large enough hole in the box and attach a firepot.. but the way the blower and tuyere connect I need it to be flat underneath. Thoughts? worth the time/steel?
  14. Hey bud, if you find any info on higher No. Buffalo's let me know, Im fighting to find anything on my No.571 The price thing can always be tricky to answer unless its WAY off, mostly its up to your need/want/affordability. If its brand new still in box sounds great to me but I would still try to get it down a bit 250 could be a good deal for a mint blower but I have never purchased any "mint" blacksmithing tools lol!! As for too much air? I dont see that as a problem, you can easily adjust the flow by adding a damper to the air intake of the blower itself, or if its hand crank, crank slower! With fire control yea that can come with time, but it sounds to me like your not giving yourself enough coal to create the coke-ing effect and burning nothing but green coal~ Best of luck!
  15. I find it funny how little the steels moves for him for soo much work ;)
  16. Or if anyone has some time frame on the blower model, that might be easier to find?
  17. ahh thanks I remember this post but forgot it was on this site lol! But I would figure of all makes a buffalo would be easier to find info on, as many catalogs as they produced.
  18. Just getting around to cleaning then fixing this old buffco forge. I have only ever seen pics of one other of its type in only slightly better condition, wondering if anyone has a link or info on the 500 series forges and aprox. timeline. I have plenty more pics to come but Ill be posting them on my site as I do the refurb/rebuild the blower and other cast parts are still in great shape. Thanks!
  19. Bridge Anvil,
Sorry I dont remember how much they wanted just that it was far more than I had! sorry~

  20. 340# Trent 140# nameless and 194# Soderfores pics to follow. old shop pic
  21. uncaught malformation of the mold block?
  22. Lol Phil, a bit much for yard art.. but if it were to come to that, welding on some mild and hanging it for signage in the storefront might work, but still more than I can afford lol!
  23. Yea, my opening offer was 85 but he didnt bother to counter. Im sure someone will find a use for it at 150 but not I~
  24. Guy posting said he was told once upon a time it was a Peter Wright. Calling him today to see if he had any offers yet. I have five good anvils right now so its the same old problem if explaining to my female half why I need it lol. Didnt like my offer, granted he's only asking $150 but I have no need of a fixer upper right now Said he didnt have any back story or info on it at all, guessing he found it cheap somewhere and thats about it heh oh well hope someone can put it back into use~ http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/atq/2266936247.html
  25. Found this poor thing tonight, posted to be over 200# but all I can see is what USED to be.
