  1. Had to get a pic of this one, Tim from craigslist was showing me his collection of smithing gear, never seen one like it very nifty!
  2. eh.. some can.. if you're not in a major rush I would shop around a bit keep an eye on the craigslist and such but thats just my thoughts.
  3. I would make sure the lining is in good shape, its not a huge thing to fix but can give you some haggle room, and make sure the gauges work!
  4. Hey bud, no worries about getting hot enough. Farrier forges need to get up to welding temp for some of the shoes we make, a TON of knife makers use them because of the compact design and efficiency. Post some more info and Ill give you my thoughts if I have used that model/brand if not there are a ton of burner experts on here that can give you more technical info. Also! Welcome to IFI and if you get a chance you might want to update your profile location, you might find someone near your location that can offer more assistance~
  5. Heheh thanks Curly! I tell the wife the same thing but she just rolls her eyes, whats up with that? Though I think I'm selling the Soderfores on the left side of the last pic, 191lb little dished and edges are a little chipped up but the horn is excellent and could work great for someone.
  6. Working on rebuilding the shed into a functioning shop good so far just got the gravel & sand mix down today, reset the flue and build a hood tomorrow maybe..
  7. I cold punch 1/4" holes in Quarters on a stump one shot.
  8. so then my question is why am I seeing it in general, and in two different browsers lol
  9. So... whats up http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/24360-uk-spoon-ladle-block/ [#10340] You do not have permission to view this topic. Things I cant see make me curious
  10. They torched and scraped every last bit of it by the time I got there this week. Even the guy running the torch hates the yard for working the way they do, He was telling me about them scraping cars from the 40's-50's with chrome and windows in excellent condition without a second look. Buy anything you want in the yard at scrap price- But oh wait the two anvils on site, one a hornless broken pos they want 200 for and more even for the poor condition HB farriers. No not only are they half buried in the dirt but each person I talk to passes the buck to the next guy "oh I dont know who owns them but they want like 400 for them things, they go for big money at them auctions..." After hunting down someone to sell me iron in a scrap yard..... I left Purdins salvage wanting to slap someone in the face and give them a dollar to buy a clue, I dropped the pile of coil springs and axle stock I was going to buy on the office doorstep and left. Not been a good week on the road.
  11. time to bust out the angle grinder and give the stand the chop!
  12. I think you mentioned farriers in another post, we burn through a LOT of rasps. A girl I was in shoeing school with is a farris out of the lakeland area of Fl and might have a few old ones to spare. If you see one of there trucks around hit them up for some old files you could have yourself a few buckets before you know what to do with them.
  13. Looks nice and clean, what type of work are you planning to do on it?
  14. Soon as I can get them to agree on a good price for the base, Ill see if I can get more info and show them the pic so I can scour the area post updates as soon as they come plan to hit this yard tuesday or wednesday
  15. I would love to just have one of the random hands out there drag it out and sell it per scrap weight and if I can great but they get curious about there junk lol but yea plan 2 is where Im headed... I wouldnt know what to do if I managed to locate the business end of the hammer. Seeing and feeling the edge it looks like a forceful break like someone dropped it out of there truck when they drove it there.. but who knows on the VERY slim chance it is found is there ANY way to repair that casting break? I would think the best plan of attack at a working hammer would be to torch off the old stand remnants and use the mechanics on a post configuration??
  16. Chicken Marsala on Monday, Fist sized meatballs and chile relleno wednesday.. so mostly I made a large mess in the kitchen, but I hope to have the forge back to the house this week!
  17. Im glad you posted this, as Im reading through this thread all thats in my head is "ok now how do I upgrade it and add swage shapes to my yet to be built tilt-table!" I was thinking more of tapered triangles and 5+ sided shapes but this is a great start!
  18. Well on the condition it is rather nice, Im sure I could use that horn for a thing or two like I do my tinsmiths spike. What bothers me is when you look close, the bick seems to be welded on check image 7. I could be wrong and it could be a good weld.. but when I think about THAT much leverage out on the tip I worry. Then I look at the poor heel and hardy, why out of THAT much length did they put the hardy on the thinest portion! Its almost like they were drawing out the heel and found out they had too much steel and left it there. I think I would snap that thing off with a few strong blows to a hardy then Im out 2grand! ( not that I would EVER spend that on this poor thing) Edit: Woa! Just took a good look at the heel in image 8, does anyone else see a diagonal line there... like the heel was welded on??? This might be where your crisp edges are from, a total regrind. We joke about Frankenstein stuff but I think this one takes the cake, I dont know but Im guessing, Horn, Heel, Base were all different parts and maybe, MAYBE the main mass was another anvil to start. Im willing to bet if you turn it over you will find the exit to an old hardy hole in original heel, Im so curious now I cant stop thinking about it!
  19. I would love to have a place near by that I could make some friends with but this place is almost two hours from where I live, that and to them I'm just "one of them longhairs" so even though I have such a good red-neck up-bringin... I'm uhh "not from round ere"
  20. Hey Willis is that the horns weld seam showing on that 1700's?
  21. Neat as it is, wow that price makes me want to vomit, one of a kind eh.. that must mean its the mickey mantle of anvils right?... RIGHT??!? goooo EBAY!!! Edit: Im also glad he made sure to have a forklift and pallet for that "Big" anvil of 150lb.... Edit2: At least they had the foresight to not list there names the other way around, then it would be the "Do Dee" anvil
