What did you do in the shop today?
TWISTEDWILLOW replied to Mark Ling's topic in Blacksmithing, General Discussion
Radio said somethin about -5 and possibly a -30 wind chill?!?!?!?! I don’t know which one of y’all left the stinking freezer door open but y’all need to start thinking about the power bill!!! it ain’t natural for the greater Metropolitan area of Peavine Oklahoma to get that cold!!! Jerry I Bet it was your fault! You were probably out there messin with your dachshunds and forgot to close the gate!!! A now your weather done spilled out 2000 miles away!! I hope your planning on bringing your plow truck to clear the driveway!!!! -
bahaha! You too? My Ashlee doesn’t particularly get my humor either so don’t feel bad! I get a lot of eye rolls too!

Holy guacamole!!!! the whole reason I put the extra postage stamp on sealed letters is because the post office told me they where non machinable and had be be sorted by hand! And that I needed to pay the extra postage for that, apparently some of my letters still get ran through the sorting machines!!!! Hey I’m im glad yours made it! my son turns 3 in March so not far off!! I got cards in the mail yesterday and today from Randy and Debi! It looked awesome! Max is in California right now but when he comes home he’s gonna flip for those dinosaur coloring sheets!!!! Thank you! from Scott! thank You for the extra surprise! I won’t open it till Christmas!!! From Les! that’s a really awesome stamp on the back of your envelope!!! Did you have that custom made? From Shaina! that card was hilarious!!! Max is gonna love that dinosaur!!!!

Shaina awesome!! You’ll have to show your idea to me sometime! I’d love to see it!

I wouldn’t bother with all that, that blower assembly has more wrong with it then just the flywheel, and even in tip top shape those lever blowers aren’t all that great, that forge body on the other hand is in excellent shape!!! and you already have a working Buffalo blower ready to use now!!! I would just make an adapter plate to match the existing holes and then attach a tuyere to the plate and your off to the races I’ve seen other folks here on IFI do really cool retrofits using a good rivet forge body you might run down to the scrap yard in stilwell tomorrow and find a plate with pipe already welded to it ready to bolt up for $.20 a pound! sometimes I luck out and find the perfect part for a project down there just laying in the dirt! Don’t forget to clay it before firing or that excellent forge body can possibly crack on you

Thanks for the heads up! i Inquired what it was used for and they said it was used for heating up samples in the engineering department where they work with metals on cnc stuff, so I don’t think it had many dangerous chemicals in it, but just to be on the safe side how would you recommend cleaning it? I wouldn’t want to cause some explosive reaction by spraying the wrong cleaner on it!

Lol Jerry, I could give you a list of things in return that would go farther out then that, Thomas I’m glad to hear you’re away from the alarms, I hope you get some much needed rest!

Champion #1 Power Hammer
TWISTEDWILLOW replied to MRB's topic in Power Hammers, Treadle Hammers, Olivers
From what I’ve been told the champion is the superior hammer but there is no parts for them so everything has to be made by machine shops, spring shops, ect… that being said a champion #1 is a 60 pound hammer so it’s more then double the 25 pound little giant so if you have a need for more power I’d go with the champion, if your doing lighter work an want easier parts availability then go with the little giant -

Got a laboratory oven today from up at the John brown university in Siloam, a friend of mine picked it up an brought it to me! it’s got a temperature controller on the bottom and a thermometer on top, the walls are pretty thick I think some kinda ceramic? anyways it works an it only cost $60 bucks, it runs on 115v and has a small footprint they said they think it goes up to 450 F but I don’t have a manual so I dunno for sure, I’ve plugged it in an turned it to the highest setting so I’ll know shortly I thought it might come in handy as a tempering oven for an adze or tomahawk? I dunno if it will work for that or not but i figured for the price it was worth trying! Worst case scenario, if it won’t work for a tempering oven then I got a fancy oven to dry out welding flux and keep welding rods in! I was too slow they had another one that could go over 1000 F for $160 but it done sold,

It’s been about 10 years since I last drove out that way but IIRC that last gas station on I40 when your crossing the Mojave Desert really socks it to you on price too! Lol -
