  2. An Auto dimmer hood Will make a huge difference, you can buy them anywhere now days for not a whole bunch of mula, I dunno if your running mig or stick but they also make a handy light that snaps onto mig guns that’s affordable
  3. Howdy from eastern Oklahoma and welcome to the forum! knives look nice to me,
  4. Buy a auto dimming hood, the prices have came down, trust me you’ll thank me later
  5. Alright y’all I had someone ask me earlier today if I’d talked with Thomas recently and I said no but I’d call him this evening, im glad I did… I just got off the phone with him an his wife, he’s in the icu at a hospital in Albuquerque, the doctors found and removed a brain tumor from him on Monday 6cm x 2.5 cm in size, he’s hungry, drugged up, has a bunch of tubes sticking out of him and only recently have they removed the restraints on him there is no eta yet on when he will be allowed to get up an walk around or when he will be allowed to go home for that matter, so far the post operation is going well he sounded good to me on the phone he was a little bit forgetful he said he’d love to have a juicy BBQ steak soft enough to cut with a fork, and that he will log on as soon as he’s allowed to come home and tell all y’all about his ordeal, im gonna call them back regularly to get updates, so y’all can stay posted, If y’all don’t mind keep him an his wife in y'alls thoughts while their hold up in the hospital during this rough time,
  6. I made the mistake of having a sausage egg and cheese McGriddle in my coat pocket yesterday Mrs pink nose, one of the shop cats decided to inspect my coat pocket and all but climbed In there while I was working a not payin attention…. needless to say before I realized what was goin on I was ham buglered!
  7. You can still buy all kinda different styles of oilers online from various suppliers, ive got a champion Lancaster that I’m fixing up to put on a rivet forge I’m restoring, the original flip top oiler was all boogerd up I found an exact replacement but I decided just for giggles imma order one of those cool lookin glass walled old style drip oilers a tap the cap on the gear box and thread that dude in there! I think it will look pretty slick! an considering the fact I ain’t met the champion forge blower that don’t puke oil anyways it will prolly be pretty handy to have something that has an adjustable oil drip! I say drill it, tap it an find a cool oiler to install on that dude! the reason those ol civil defense blowers had sealed gear boxes was probably because they didn’t want to risk petroleum lubricant fumes leaking into an inclosed space im guessin,
  8. I’m just jokin y’all It snowing here right now but all the blowers are working fine, it not cold enough here currently to actually freeze anything up, I had just found a picture from last year during a hard freeze we had of some of my blowers and thought I’d crack a joke about the cold today,
  9. Well I was gonna forge today but my blower froze up… Guess I’ll have to take a look at it later to see what I can do to unstuck it…
  10. An this is why you should always check the fire wood before loading up an arm full, these two make numbers 6-7 black widows ive killed in that stack alone not counting egg sacks,
  11. Yes George we’re all watching Craigslist an marketplace for it too, No reward but he’s posted publicly if it’s returned to his driveway or police department, sheriffs department ect.. no questions will be asked an the matter will be dropped, Jerry, yes every feed store, pawn shop, resale shop, scrap yard, etc has been notified, we all know each other and where all watching, I told him not to make a big stink on Facebook because more then likely the thief is on there, but it’s not likely the thief will post on independent smithing forums online because they will use what they know to make a quick sale,
  12. Yes, pawn shops an resale shops have been notified, law enforcement pulled the video footage from the Wally World parking lot, scrap yards are on the lookout ect… no leads yet, I told him whoever stole it more than likely intended to resell it, and it will turn up eventually,
  13. It a long shot I know, but if anyone in eastern Oklahoma, western Arkansas or southern Kansas an Missouri happens to come across a 70 pound (short sugar) brand farriers anvil with turning cams on it you’d know it because it has a 1/4” deep ring worn in the horn A farrier friend of mine had it stolen outta the back of his shoeing truck, he’s been using that anvil for 20 years since he bought it new and he has grown quite attached to it, he called me up to borrow an anvil this evening so he can get through some jobs till he can run up to Norman to buy a new anvil I told him I’d pass the word on here so folks in our region will be on the lookout for it Incase it pops up,
  14. Happy Veterans Day to all my brothers an sisters in arms! thank you all for your service!
  15. Howdy from eastern Oklahoma and welcome to the forum! anvils vary greatly in price from region to region so it depends on what your local goin rate is, $2-$4 a pound is fair for something usable, $5-6 a pound for something in good shape, to much higher then that an you’d be better off buying a new cast steel anvil, Vulcans have a cast iron body with a tool steel face and have a reputation of chipping really bad, that being said some of our members have Vulcans and they love them so it’s a matter of preference I suppose, one nice thing about cast iron based anvils is they are much quieter then wrought iron or cast steel anvils! So if you have neighbors close by that’s a plus!
  16. You’re welcome Les! I’m glad I could help with your project, USPS sure took their time gettin it to ya! Lol I’ve had an seen quite a few 400s that had the remnants of old black paint on them so I’d bet that’s a good guess, I don’t know for sure though, cause I found one packed away up in a barn loft about 7-8? Years ago, it was just the blower no stand but it was like brand new packed in some kinda cosmoline type stuff and that thing had no paint job it was just shiny metal and had been up in that loft for decades till the owner passed away and the family decided to start selling everything off, that was a one time find though, I’ve seen more than a few with ol black paint on em so that’s more then likely how they came, $180 ain’t bad for a good workin blower, I’ve seen champion, Buffalo an Otto blowers all three go for $2-3 hundred on the high end at farm auction’s around here,
  17. Nice score Lary! what did you have to give if ya don’t mind my askin? Lol its that big magnet I keep in the truck!
  18. Had a customer ask me to run up to his place and check out a few of his welding rigs that were broke down, before I left he gave me a small load of 3/4”sucker rod and told me to come Back an load up anytime I needed more, im thinkin bout makin a jig an usin a pile of it for triangle dinner bells!
  19. That’s awesome rich_c! what license do you hold? How long you been working with ham?
  20. Radio said the Senate unanimously voted to do away with it but it stalled in the house or something like that
  21. X2 switching these clocks around twice a year is silly, I personally much prefer the fall back time we’re in now I wish they’d just shut it off on leave it on this time, but I heard on the radio that the plan to spring forward one more time before shutting it down, do they do this nonsense in other countries or is this purely a US thing?
  22. Leaving it 6 feet away from the Wood stove might not hav been the best idea! Bahaha well imma let it finish drying out and fill in the cracks and try it out anyways, ive got plenty leftover so I’ll re do it later, I think when I redo it I’m not gonna make it so thick, an I’ll set it in a side room in the shop with a bag over it to help it dry more slowly,
  23. Nah they’re different, you got to get a federally issued license from the fcc to operate a ham radio, lots a of studying on electronics, radio waves, compliance ect… Jerry I think it’s hey dropped the permit requirement for Citizens band in the late 70s
  24. I never had a ham radio setup but I remember messing around with CB radios
