  1. I was thinking bout just blowing it out once in awhile with the air compressor from the shop does anyone use a stand alone tooling stand in their smithy like I’m thinking about building?
  2. Awsome! I’m glad to hear some cards are starting to make it to their destinations! yes these cards were specifically picked out and approved by Max! Lol ive contemplated disguising a one ton sack as a over sized stocking!!!
  3. Wow I like it Shaina! What stock did you use?
  4. Howdy from eastern Oklahoma and welcome to the forum!!! Used anvil prices vary greatly on location, some places you’d be lucky to get $2 a pound, and other places it’s a bargin at $5 a pound, and the second thing is condition, if it’s crisp sharp never been used it’s worth more, if it’s missing half the face it’s worth scrap price, Blacksmiths are looking for a tool to use and won’t pay more for used then they can buy it new but antique collectors will pay a stupid amount if it’s something they want, so it’s kinda hard to help you out with your question without knowing where your located and see a few pictures of the anvil in question
  5. Thomas Or sand stands!!! Randy that guillotine looks pretty slick!
  6. Arkie it was pretty sweet to see up close! I’ve seen it from a distance before but that was the first time actually visiting an climbing onboard the Christmas train!
  7. You Rang? howdy Thomas! Glad to see you’re avatar back on the forum! Howdy from the greater metropolitan area of peavine Oklahoma!!! And welcome to the forum! youd Be more then welcome at my smithy anytime! there are BOA hammer ins every month around northwest Arkansas and you be more then welcomed to come visit a meeting sometime! Me, arkie, Irondragon are all members there there are other clubs and meetings around Arkansas too so your in a great spot! There’s probably something always going on within your driving distance!
  8. Shaina You’re right! I probably got more than enough stuff piled up around here i could make a half dozen of them! …..buuuuut I’m a lazy smith, an this one just shows up in my mailbox with dies ready to use!!! Bahahaha! I don’t have any problem with using it at the anvil but I’ve wanted to make a tooling stand for awhile for more than just the guillotine, I also want to build a stand alone stand so I can swap out various bending and scrolling jigs and other tooling an use really long stock an not worry about anything shifting since it’d be anchored into the concrete pad also what else am I gonna do with that perfect little square holed plate?!?! (Jerry don’t answer) And last but not least because I think a stand alone stand would look cool! Lol BillyBones, thank you for your insight on yours I think I will probably go with the bolt together one that has the flat top dies, ive looked at the c framed ones both home made and factory made and I may make or buy one in the future but for now I think imma try out the one from BS Depot do you have pictures of your C and H frames that you built?
  9. Imma wake up an old thread here, Back around Halloween BillyBones made some sweet looking pumpkins outta pipe and I asked him what he used an he said a guillotine which started me looking at some commercially available ones there’s some really really cheesy ones on Amazon with bad reviews and then there’s some crazy expensive ones that are built at an angle like the one above and then I found two comparable ones. price is roughly the same only difference I can see is the BS depot one is bolted together and comes with a cutting die, and the one from BS supply is riveted together an comes with no dies, both companies offer several ready made dies to choose from as well as blanks to make your own, I was wondering if anyone on here has tried one or both of them out and what your opinion is on them? also I found some stuff at the scrap yard that I think would make a perfect tooling stand for a guillotine, some 12”x12” 3/8” plate and a 1/4” walled rectangle pipe that’s 3”x6” and a piece of 3/8” plate that just so conveniently happened to have a 1” square hole already in it!!!! Lol i was wondering if anyone else has a stand for your guillotines and what you like or dislike about them? here’s a mock up of what I’m thinking an it would be anchored into concrete and filled with sand
  10. There used to be rail depot’s all across Adair county and you could ride the trains from community to community but I don’t think the passenger trains have ran 60 some odd years
  11. Check the clearance isle at Wally World! That’s where we stock up on bubbles for max
  12. Howdy from eastern Oklahoma and welcome to the forum! I don’t know diddly about gas rigs or crucibles but I’m sure the resident experts will be along shortly what kinda business you in?
  13. They look bigger then they really are the icicles are just small pieces of 1/4” not very heavy, the cross is 3/8” split but hangs fine on a thicker branch or off light strand
  14. He is currently two but he turns three in March, yeah I don’t like being cooped up in a car all day that’s why I would prefer to fly if I have the option Jerry might be a stupid question but do any of the bigger railroads connect Alaska to the US across Canada? Or do y’all have to ship everything over water
  15. Just hitch the moose team to the RV an y’all will be here in no time Jerry! there’s a historic passenger train that runs from Missouri down to Van buren Arkansas that puts on a polar express Pajama night ride we were gonna take him on but they are all booked up so we will try next year, they run that train on a regular schedule so we may take him for a ride on that sooner
  16. Workin on some ornaments this week just finished another icicle
  17. Just make sure to keep ‘em away from that O’Leary cow!!! Lol thats pretty cool Randy! I think I’ve got one of those style lamps in the shop somewhere too!
  18. There was a super long line to get onboard and to Santa but the trip through the actual train wasn’t crowded, we were able to spend a few minutes at each display! Kansas City southern does one every year! they start down in Louisiana by Les’s smithy and they end up by Shainas blacksmith shop! an I’m somewhere in the middle! lol I don’t think me or Max could handle a 12 hr drive and the current fuel prices are prohibitive, but I just looked at cheap flights from north west Arkansas to Denver an saw some as cheap as $34 bucks for a 2 hr flight so we might just fly out there an get a rental car! Lol Les Yes He had a ball! He whooped an hollard the whole time lol that train starts down in Louisiana in November so maybe next year you could get a chance to see it if you have time and it’s not to for away! Here’s the schedule for this year https://www.kcsouthern.com/pdf/community/2022-Holiday-Express-Schedule.pdf
  19. Well worked all day in the shop an never saw the kitten do I figured he ran off, just heard a mew come from the parts room and took a peek and saw him on a self so I brought him a water bowl, a bowl of cat food, an a can of tuna, an shut the door so the dogs, cats, possums and everything else can’t get in there an take his dinner and bug him
  20. Took Max to the Kansas City Southern Christmas train this evening, it stopped here in stilwell, had to wait in line about an hour to get onboard but it was pretty cool! when I set him on the steps to take a picture before we got onboard he bolted past me and the elves and shot straight up them steps and the elf up top tried to help him an he got away from him too running into the train! they had em all decorated in the two cabooses and the box car had two huge dioramas with running trains, And at the end we saw Santa! The Christmas train was towed here by an old passenger train and it was pretty cool looking too! over all it was a good time an Max had a blast!
  21. A chicken coop with a half dozen good layers will keep a small family in eggs I like to keep a half dozen kerosene lanterns around the shop and a 5 gallon can of kerosene too
  22. Don’t hurt to grab an extra can of beans when you’re at Wally World once in awhile
  23. Good grief! i think I sent that a month ago before thanksgiving It must have been routed through the mail sorting station in Antarctica! On a side note it looks like you need a letter opener Shaina!
  24. Thanks y’all, I’ve been able to tame down a few of the feral cats that show up, here a there over the years, I’ve even got some of em to hop up on my lap but they don’t trust other people, That said every now an then there’s a wild one that just ain’t having it lol my pet cats that live in the house they all have been spayed and neutered, But for the wild cats its Like $75 a pop down there in town to get a cat snipped so I just focus on catching the stray/feral females that show up so I don’t have litters of kittens every five minutes! Lol That’s worked pretty well to keep the cat population down around the shop over the years, I actually got it down to only two cat’s living out there until this little guy showed up yesterday, I asked the vet about rabies shots an stuff but they told me he was to young for anything right now anyways, they gave him an antibiotic shot and a pain killer shot to help with that back leg,
  25. While I was Working this afternoon I heard some mewing coming from the field, tracked it down to a armadillo hole underneath a broke down truck, found the feral polydactyl tom kitten, looking like a drowned rat and covered in mud, I grabbed a pair of welding gloves and crawled under the truck and fished him outta the hole, imma thinkin something got after him during the storm last night cause he had a limp on one of his back legs, he’s about like holding a burlap sack full of bobcats! Lol i threw him in a box an drove him to town to get him checked out by the vet and brought him back to the shop an turned him loose in the abyss of my store room shelves where nothing will bother him till he get to feeling better
