  1. I have never roled the stock on all 4 sides just worled 2 of them do u think that can be a problem ?
  2. 10x for the fast reply ... the problem is not that the dies don't line up they do ... just that in the picture it;s a flatbar benith them and that's keeping them at an angle(the flat bar is a helper to alighn the stock paralel to the die...it's a rest on one side). Frosty: I did the dies as u sayed weldet them toghether and then grinded as one... cuting them into half i don't think will solve the problem the caz upp and lower is alined just up and left is not look at the schetch that i made. Ed... Mike: i know others are doing the same picket on a bought die(from a factory) without fullering you can buy the die from glasser(company) the ideea with a stop in front crosed my mind ... it's just that the stock it's quite thick 35mm. that's 1,5i nches i think and the concern is that after the 1st 2..3 hits the material will start to get longer and that will make my ,,stop'' witout a point... but hey that's my last resort ...
  3. Nice story's ! and nice to see the photo of the original Haberman hammer !10x Glenn
  4. 10x to bad my picket's from my other post don't come up ... man i am so frustrated ...so much work on those dies :(
  5. This will be a cloth rack far from being finished so consider it a work in progress and i'll keep following new pictures while it's getting done ...any way here it is as it is now feel free to judge me.The last picture is the handle of a fire poker that i just finished ... i like it a lot.
  6. I really need this things to work especialy tomorow ... i worked on this die for so long now ...and here is the problem ... the picture says 1000 words the thing is that the dies ar not offset and i am turning the peace every 2 hits ...is it my tehnique that's a problem ... the lines don't alline up . Up aliines with down and left with right but up with left does not ... if u need me to be more specific i can try to ... any way here are the pics with the picket and with the die
  7. Go to a junk steel yard and pick some cheap bars from over there they shoud get u started ! Cheap and good for learning
  8. Hmm i never got that far ! Congrats on the forge weld !
  9. I am ashamed of the prices i have to ask the customer when he comes with a job for me .. man iron is expensive and for sure i am not getting any reacher :)
  10. I don;t think Richard will agree with u :)
  11. I never seen this done in Romania or heard of ...Is the anvil getting any damage ?
  12. Found this movies while browsing arround and thought about sharing with u guys...one describes the procedure needed to make a good anvil shoot Anvil shoot
  13. What's the anvil got to do with upsseting i dont get it ?
  14. When a customer comes and asks for something he is expecting that u give him the price right away...It;s hard to do that because most of the customers whant different things but you have to be able to tell him right away how much his fence or railing will cost.I mosty do it by comparation to my other works ... but man have i gone under payed a couple of times. So my rule is now ...how much u expect to cost(2 times the value of the steel) +15% more if u can sniff the customer that has money, or minimum 1 time the value of the steel if the customer really needs feels like having less money and you are not expecting to get a better job in the near future. BTW in Romania 10 USD/ hour is the price that you are happy if u get
  15. Don't you not treasure more the forged one instead on the serial cast ones (anvil) ? There are 2 things that give value to any item... It's usefulness and the process involved into making it... I know there are only a handfull of people that know the diference betwen let's say a hammer that's CNC cut or forged out. Can u beat the perfection of the CNC ? no... but can the CNC copy the mistakes / character that the tired blacksmith does ? So what if we got all the new tools and tehnology... they are greate for mass production and low cost. Just my opinion. I do use cast elements in my work i also used CNC cut or punched pressed elements but i have to admit that there are people that know the diference betwen a rivet and an electric weld and they are still going for a rivet. I guess the choise is it's customer's and i know most of my customers are looking at the low cost solution. The 3 hammers forged that i got from Richard now all sit with prinde in a frame on my showroom wall but i whoud never put a cast one there...not that i don't use cast hammers in my shop i use them and i can;t feel a difference betwen the cast/forged one... The only diference is in my mind. I am sorry Hoffi if u think i do not agree with you or the use of new tehnology that;s not the thing , i know that u are a very skilfull blacksmith and full of knolage and you are willing to share that knolage and i apreciate that. I am just pointing out my opinion as it is.
  16. Nice looking mill ! I dream for one for so long , i envy you ! Nice one !
  17. To bad to be on a forging forum and like a casted item instead of a forged one... But hey who can beat the fact's... It;s cheaper, it;s easyer to make ,it;s balanced, it's better !
  18. When i grow up i want to be able to do a sword just like this !!! Nice work !
  19. Ok... this hapend to me during the operation of that presses : 1 i shaterd a die oance 2.i busted the thread that you screw to adjust the stroke Not verry funny so if u are going to use it GET A ROLL CAGE i am joking ! Be very careful !

  21. Most of the work that it's done in the shop goes directly to the customer but but every time i do something new i make +1 of it ! The extra peace i keep arround me to show it to the customers and to remind me how it's done :)
  22. Have to agree with kevin ! Nice to see new creative ideas ! Best of luck !
  23. Nice finger nails Genuine blacksmithing hands ... and regarding your question if u cooled the pieace in water ... i whould not be amazed but just from hammering it even cold it;s hard for me to belive that it cracked ... i do a lot of hammering cold and unless i bend the peace i can;t get it to crack.
