  1. I just met Stephan Christ today. He came to the shop. Tomorow will have a small rehersal for the demo. I think it will be about damascus making. I will be video taping the hole thing.
  2. Well i have no ideea how many people will come this all depends of the organizer. The organizer is branch of the citty hall but honest i don't think many people are intrested and if there will be 10 i am lucky. I just have to wait and see. This is the second time such an event is hosted in my shop... The 1st time it was for a week... than there where 5...6 people excluding my shop personal.. Hope this year will be more
  3. Well i have the pleasure to announce that my shop will be hosting a demonstration called How to protect the iron elements of a historical building. The practical demonstration will take place between 7-8 august, address: str.Demetriade nr.1/5, Timisoara . If any of you can reach my citty in time . The training will be about how to conserv and mantain in a proper way the iron parts of a historical building. The demonstator will be master blacksmith Stephan Christ, He is coming from Germany / Mainz to do this demo. I am just hosting in my shop this i am not the organizer that;s why i announce in such a short notice. BTW Do you guys know him ?? Stephan Christ ??
  4. When i worked with my father and my father only it was a pleasure ...to work. Now when i go to the shop it's just ... i don't know i don't whana say ugly things but ... i just don't go with pleasure. I see so many flaws and nobody is responsable for them... but i have to be. Today i just sent home 2 of the people working with me. One was drinking during job and the other was doing everything that i sayed but in the oposite way(no need to say that after this show...everybody did his job right). I want to be able to do blacksmithing work with pleasure again.
  5. You see ... when u come home u start blacksmithing but when i come home ...i have to think what to give to 14 peopel to work tomorow
  6. If you where going to sell your shop/business how much woud you ask for it ? Or woud you not sell it? or give it away? I have become the slave of this shop no holiday no time to spend with friends no weekends just work and home and IFI ...that can also be considered work...And for what ? i only have 2 hands to eat with !
  7. Tomorow i go into production with this pickets ... 1st test with the newly regrindet dies here is how they came out ... i am still not 100% happy about them but i think it's just the hand of the forger that needs some practice...here is the outcome... Any last minute ideeas about imporvment ? keep in mind that i started forging without removing any part of the material... I'll have a movie tomorow of how this is forged
  8. I also do it cold... in a tool similar to what Dale recomandate and i think You will be able to do that twister faster than u do the twist in the forge ! the longest i have done it was 3 meters out of 4 peaces of round x10mm...My twister is manual
  9. All u need is will...and as i can see you already got that ! Nice
  10. I think to that i'll be leaving the stump as it trimmed branch. (That's exactly how i got the big pipe from the junkyard with the ''stump'' on it)
  11. Nope ... the picket was made on other dies , different smith and other power hammer...(that's what i use for inspiration ) I have also redone the fish tail fitting of the dies ...1st time they where made with an angle grinder and they where a bit loos. (call me a dreamer for using a frinder to make this dies and hope to work )
  12. Nice !!! Man i wish for such a big compressor to :)
  13. I tried 18mm square same awful result Ant way this is where i am now ... the picket is not made by me but the die is ......5 minutes ago i got back from the shop no more sun light to see i'll be dressing it better tomorrow a few more hours.... The dies at the present form. Do u think that much of an angle can be the reason for my problems as in picture 2 ...(i plan to fix that to but it is a problem in the groves caz i can't put the 90^ angle and see the light)
  14. I don't know if the hammer is or not big enof but defenetly bigger than the hammers that thyey sell the die for (the bigger that they seem to have for sale is a 50Kg) nine is at least 80...90kg 12kw electric motor(They got a 5kw) and in the die specs of the die it says that they use round or square 30mm stock ... have to try round as well can't wayt for tomorow ... i'll be posting the pics of the progress or ... downfall ps : just read the specs of the die ...it's ment for GSW 51 OR GSW 60 That's theyr 51 and 60kg air hammer
  15. Tomorow i get the dies back ... and if it does not work i won't have any other choise than use the lathe to make the groves... it's proably a bi cheaper than forging it ... Check this out(my inspiration) http://www.glaser.de/fileadmin/download/maschinenkatalog07.pdf Page 109 the die is presented in the lower left side of the page and i bet they don't do the picket in 2 steps ...
  16. I haven't been working only on 2 sides i always took turn every 2 hits. I started thinking completeing to sides than turning to the oter 2 ....but i think that will offset my peace complelty The die made as to V's shape that's a chalange that can't be done in my shiop.Or maybe it can but i am not up to doing it And this is all 10x to you Amazing i know And i thank you all for your support and ideas . Glenn your words fit like a glove to this thread and u got me thinking
  17. Hofi may be right and i completly understand his point but it's 2 mutch time consuming for one peace (to grind or pre fuller or whatever neded to get the exces material away)and time is money and that will exced my 2,5 USD/peace money limit. maybe i'll be doing it on a press(second option) more control of the presure ... i don't know but it has to be one operation job.I thought about it all night.
  18. Ok well i went with the die to my uncle who is a machinist and has a few mills in the shop and took the levels on every up and low of the die for perfect alighnment and did most of the leveling posible on the mill...It wasn't mutch offset thow but now is 100% leveled done with a machine not with my hands and with the angle grinder tomorow time to test and see if any improvment ... if the die is perfect than probably the forger has a problem :)
  19. Is this what u mean ? when u say inner necks ? won't that change to much from the form of the picket ?
  20. Hmm i don't know the trick is in that ''stop'' i think but when and how to use it well that's a second story. I use the STOP on the 1st hit material will grow... on the second hit if i use the STOP the material will be longer and autmtatacly will be unalined ...using it for the second hit ...it's an ideea ...
