Civil War era blacksmith wagon
Reeltree replied to Glenn's topic in Blacksmithing, General Discussion
Could not get replay posted in Glenn's original topic and felt my reply worth mentioning,, The Smithsonian Institute has plans for cannons from that era,, maybe forge wagons too,, worth a try A guy over in the Shenandoah Valley was able to get a copy of drawings for an original 6 pound cannon sent to him (Confederate) He made everything exactly from the specs -
I do believe coal dust will fill in the cracks

What did you do in the shop today?
Reeltree replied to Mark Ling's topic in Blacksmithing, General Discussion
wow ,,purty shop,,I was measuring and figuring for a water trap and air lines to plumb in a compressor,, have most all the fittings but will still cost near 200.00 for the copper pipe, ball valves, air connectors and such,, hope to find a 3/4 hydro hose laying around to use for a flex hose from compressor to the water trap,, I know I got one somewhere, If the shop looked like grumpy's it would be in my hand already -
All for nuttin,, owner pulled the first forge out of the sale to keep for himself,, the second one was a HOJ,,anvil probably 50-60#,, pictures can be very deceiving was a nice 1.5 hour ride over in the valley
-
ok, thx,, I know nuttin about gassers,,I have three hand crank blowers now that were rehabbed out of old sheds,, I noticed in the second forge pic there maybe some burner parts missing,, I have a new in the box Dayton motor that should fit if need be,,
-
welp,, Im not saying I havn't been a victim of acquiring a pig in a poke in the past but I do try to limit those instances, hence the above posting, if the price is good and they look to be in good and / or serviceable condition , i'll take my chances knowing there is a plethora of knowledge to be had here
-
I should'a seen that one coming,, I would say,, buy the dump truck you can also put the 15 passengers in the back if need be on the other hand ,, you didn't recognize either as an absolute "pig" "stay away from", that was the jest I was aiming at,, I shall use my better judgment when I can get a closer hands on look at em,,,it has served me well in the past

Updated auction pic's indicate two gassers,,and decent looking 80-100# range anvil,, will find out tomorrow evening, the guy use to be a farrier,, having no experience what so ever with gasser's,, which of the two would be more conducive to obtain?

very nice piece for the first one,,,perhaps a slit, V wedge thru the back middle for pulling out the stakes cool touchmark -
If I get it, I'll ask about what upgrades can be done
-
Have a line on either a whisper baby or momma in up coming auction, hope to score it for pennies on the dollar
-
Thx,, its called a double seaming stake for tinning and such,, probably come in handy for other work also. My old 86 kingcab 4x4 Nissan had 2 tranny overhauls ( riding the beaches surf fishing was hard on the bearings) retired it with over 300k miles when the frame by the rear wheels rusted out. It gave me excellent service

Exactly,, at a young age I was grinding mower blades without glasses,,the next day the little piece of sliver began to rust,, naturally I began rubbing the irritated spot . By mid day it was extremely painful,, went to ER had my head strapped into what could be compared to a horizontal drill press ,, flushed my eye with liquid cocaine for numbing , and drilled that little sucker out,, don't second guess with your eyeballs. -
Auction haul,,never hooked up/used 80 gallon 12.9cfm@90psi compressor ,,1/3 new cost. Delta planer still has the protection film on the feed table,,one Franklin

Put this little mig gun holder together,,, nothing worse than setting it down on the trigger having multiple feet of wire spool out
