  1. The eye of your "hawk" looks like you inserted a piece clear up to the eye? Or did you double up the rasp? Thanks. GREAT looking. Hope mine turns out half that good..... Eric
  2. I see lots of already made rasp tomahawks. Question: Do you smooth off the teeth on the part that is going to be the INSIDE of the eye?? I know the inside is file side of the rasp, but still wondering if it is ground off or left on?
  3. Try This site: http://www.beautifuliron.com/chimneys.htm . It has a pretty complete discussion of chimneys and hoods.
  4. I have pictures on an old post in "Presses" of my almost century old combination screw/arbor press. It does press things and I am making some tooling for it BUT,being SLOW, it doesn't replace a fly press. I can send you better pictures if you'd like. Eric Sprado
  5. Nice! thanks. I've been looking for threads on friction folders so I can make a basic one for my daughter for Christmas...
  6. The little HF 1" belt grinder for around 35 bucks is a DREAM for sharpening. You need to buy belts somewhere else. With a fine grit belt I sharpen everything. Had it for two years now....
  7. They still have both single and double jack drilling contests where I used to ranch in Nevada. Most double jack teams are a dad(swinging) and son(holding). Lots of faith on both parts. They do miss sometimes.
  8. Gee: I was thinking about showing you my genuine antique coopers anvil until you griped about us potheads!Pictures of it somewhere on NWBA site......
  9. Go to Goodwill and buy a good toaster oven for five bucks and put it in your shop. No domestic quarrels!
  10. I think a flock of cranes is called a crock....
  11. Any of you going through or near Shelley Idaho might want to stop in a meet Mont.. He has been VERY kind to respond to my offline emails and supply me with practical technical information for my Century buzz box!! They are a feed store, but sell AND repair welders as I understand it...
  12. Many of the Centaur anvils made in Sweden were painted green......
  13. I keep a car coupler knuckle on a fir block near my anvil. It is a great swedge block. Has some great holes for dishing.....
  14. I've been around quite a few of those Centaurs. I sold one at the last NWBA conference for about that price. I've not seen any of the "bad" ones.Maybe just luck or maybe I try to hit what is on the anvil and not the anvil itself... Not that I haven't done that, but it wasn't my intent.
  15. Phil's anvil looks like a toe caulk swedge came with it. When I first started shoeing (200 years ago) we forge welded lots of toe caulks on draft shoes. Several outfits sold ready made caulks to weld on. They had a little nib sticking down that you used to position the caulk while bringing to welding heat.We usually made our own caulks up in slack times. Whoops-sorry I digressed from thread!! Old fart here with wandering mind........Please forgive
  16. Here is my Little Giant #25. Exactly 100 years old this year
  17. Okay: Crosses. I am not a Christian but I have a neighbor up the road who is a real real real Christian whom I respect a lot. They don't have much but take in a slew of foster kids and shower so much love on them that they all do well. I would like to make them a cross for Christmas. I'm thinking about an 8inch high cross standing in a nice piece of granite. My skills are: I made handmade horseshoes for umpteen years, make nice wall hooks for friends and family and reasonably clean barbecue forks and such things. Any ideas, drawings, pictures? I'd like to make it nice and clean for such good folks. Thanks for ideas, Eric Sprado Sorry-I guess I shifted the subject here. Feel free to move this post somewhere else if need be....
  18. Looks like more than two years sittin to me
  19. Let the Ebay geeks have it. Won't do you a bit of good
  20. Interesting: They're mixing it up. The shoes shown being put on the horses are handmade shoes at a shoeing contest NOT the ones they showed being made a few minutes before by machine. Both are good shoes but I wonder what the purpose of the video is? Promotional? Eric S.

OKay: Everybody is talking about "Lillico's Book" but nobody is saying THE NAME OF IT!!!!! Can't look for it if I don't have title. Thanks, Eric S.
  22. I'm sorry: I just can't figure out how jig is used.. Is it clamped to platen? I guess that's why I don't make a living blacksmithing.
  23. Old Genaire(sp) stove blowers work great.
