  1. A patent search should nail it down quickly, but if the patent results come back anything elephant related all I can say is, "Poor elephant, run; run - as fast as your big feet will carry you!"
  2. Interesting and great R&D results! Frosty thanks for the external link!
  3. Been so busy around here lately that I just found and read this post. Ed I am sure glad Bella is home now as it has to reduce some of extra driving you were doing before she got back home. A little leakage is to be expected and it will heal/seal a lot better over time. My kids tell me I had 12 units of blood, or more, pumped into me before the majority of my leakage was stopped after the initial surgery. After I got home I would get extremely dizzy if I bent over and got back up fast, got up from a squat position, or a sitting position. Been little over 7 months now since the surgery and the dizziness is far less of a problem anymore as all is about healed over now! (Disregard what the others' may think or say, insisting that I am always a bit dizzy and definately a 1/2 bubble or more off plumb ). Bella get well soon! Ed if you need a bit of heat 'n beat stress relief you know where I live and how to contact me!
  4. Hey bro, just consider this 1 a mockup trial and error model. Get it done real nice and puuurrrty looking ........ then ship it here for some thorough in use testing! Then make the 2nd 1 for the customer. (You and your senior moments, hope they aint contagious 'cause I doubt if I have been vaccinated for the condition) :P
  5. Ed, Bella and you remain in our prayers, hearts, and thoughts. Call if you need anything and please keep us informed on Bella's progress. (Bella, trust me, it only gets better from here so hang in there little gal..... and I want to meet you someday too!)
  6. 1 little guy was not about to miss out on all the fun this year The hammer-in was Fri-Sun and he just snuck right in sometime sat. As he decided to make his entry during the hammer-in I could think of no better name for him than "Forger".
  7. You now have an anvil, a solid straight welding table to clamp things to, a sturdy workbench to temperarily clamp power tools to for use, and more uses just lurking for you to discover! What more you want for now, maybe an apprentice that works for free??? LOL

  15. AC in a smithy, is that like an electric fan blowing across the top of a heavily iced down keg? If so then there will be working AC in the smithy. LOL (BTW:I think Dodge is buying the keg)
  16. The 5th annual "Trying-It" hammerin weekend for 2011 wll be scheduled as usual on the 3rd weekend of Aug which this year will fall on Aug 19, 20, 21 (Fri - Sun) . This is the same weekend as the annual 5-day American Threshermen Steam and Antique Tractor show just 7 miles south in Pinckneyville, thus most motels are fully booked within the Pinckneyville region. The great flea market at the steam show is well worth a look too. Past years I have acquired a complete forge table and a 6" post vise, both considered to have been bought at bargain prices! This hammerin is on our 80-acre farm so bring a tent and you and yours should surely be able to find a cozy place here to pitch it! (Bathroom and shower in house can be used.) Other sleeping arrangements may be possible if desired, but contact me beforehand and we will see what we can do! This hammerin location is about 6.5 miles north of Pinckneyville, Illinois, (zipcode 62274) on IL State RT 127. Email: trying_it2@yahool.com Cell # 618-924-4032 Again I have placed a special request with the weather service to hold off the mud makers this particular weekend. At this point in time all is looking good in that dept with just more typical type southern Illinois temps and humidity; and the ever present chance of a pop-up shower. Come share a fire and the fun!!!! Come meet other IFI members! BTW: This year we will be breaking in my new shop addition for a smithy, so now we get to play inside!!! Stan AKA: Trying-it
  17. Darkside + Richard + Richard's color palette = There goes the neighborhood! Richard I have to admit they are unique!!!

  21. The cubes actually feel good in the hand and add a bit more gripping texture to hold. The cubes are sized 1/4" apart. When I laid the pattern out I used a wrap of 1" masking tape under the head and another 4" further down. The space inbetween was then used as guide marks to start and stop the 4 center cuts (kept all 4 cuts the same length) and 4" is about the width of my closed fist/hand. Thanks for all the kind reviews! I enjoyed making this sharp pointy thingie and might just have to do some more soon!
  22. My first ever forged and finished knife with a home made sheath. It is a b'day present for my neighbor who turns 80 yrs old weekend. I got distracted 1 minute and next thing I know I find myself on the Darkside! 1 minute, guess that is 1 of those "senior moments" I keep hearing about!!! (Still think Garey Ford must have pushed me when I was not looking)
  23. Now you are teasing me to do some new R&D trying-it stuff. (Might have to make some new stuff here that helps s-t-r-e-t-c-h or reshape a $1 or 2... LOL) Looks great for a first try!
