  1. I need a non reflective non shiny finish. I'm making a Stealth knife. No shine sheath scales and blade. Not necessarily all black. Just zero gloss. Thanks, Phillip
  2. My daily carry is micarta made from black work pants and grey work shirts and a 1/2 quart of fiberglass resin
  3. If your ever at the choo choo forge.in Chattanooga look me up. Phillip
  4. BM454 I gave you a blank from that batch. Now that your quadruple by pass is done you can start working on it. Bring Otto the house when It's ready and we can harden it and start the draw back.
  5. I don't want to reproduce an antique. I want to build 1 with a.modern trigger. I figure that should be safer. Great links especially for the prods.
  6. I'm more than mildly interested in making a crossbow. Deer bow season is a few months away and taking one with a weapon I made would be very cool.
  7. Scott, Thanks for the advice
  8. 1090 and black and.gray micarta Sorry.about.the reflection of.the light fixture in the second picture.
  9. How long is the handle and what is the profile of the head shape?
  10. I forgot how much I liked that double edged short sword you made.
  11. Carbon monoxide detectors and a forced air (assisted air?) Hood above the forge with a good squirrel cage fan built in. You only have 1 life and 1 set of lungs. If you survive carbon monoxide poisoning. Your lungs and other organs could and or will be affected for life. Be safe and have fun!!
  12. I really like it. What may I ask is your system for heat treat?
  13. Keep em coming they put the dirt in dirt poor and gas expense is a real issue for them.
  14. I know there are NINE sub groups and I mentioned all of them. They are listed right there. I told them that calling the closest groups is a good way to start.
  15. I looked at that site. Tuscaloosa is too far for them. Are there any groups or smiths willing to teach a little closer?
  16. I have a friend who is new to blacksmithing and needs a forge group or a master smith to learn from part time near Lincoln Alabama. Pleas PM me with details. I'm in Bledsoe Tn. So I can't teach them. thanks.
  17. Great news a quality grinder along with some good draw filing skills and some basic hand tools will make for some great finishing. My friend at the Choo choo forge is doing the welding on my copy of this. A good 1/2 horse buffer is a great addition as well.
  18. I agree. Also a cold breeze thru my shop when I am moving a freshly quenched blade into the oven could be a problem. In my shop during final quench the forge, quenching oil, and toaster oven are only a few feet from one another. That's why I like 75 ft extension cords. The rest of the time the oil is covered and in a corner.
  19. I'll hold Rich down someone get the honey and find an ant hill. ;-) I can say that I'm still driving my 20 year old Ranger with 304,000 miles on it. Chevy parts are hard to get because the cowboys that own them won't let you in their hayfields to tow them out. Rear drive axel shafts make great tools as well.
