  2. most of the time it is easier to straighten a piece on an anvil with a slight sway than it is on a perfectly flat one

  4. may be a Jet brand I have only seen one and it wasnt all that bad of an anvil to start with

  12. apprenticeman they are workhorses the smaller hatchet is all on piece of A2 with inlaid phenolic inserts for the handles / the skinner blade is 3/16 thick , both were made to use and use hard. i had had enough of lookers and needed a user ( couldnt find anything to suit me ) so I made my own
  13. Just came across these two hatchets and a skinning knife that I made around 1979 - 80 during the fur boom. They were made to use so they werent taken to the finish that they would have been if i were going to sell them The hatchets are A2 tool steel the skinner is O1
  14. Glenn I was wondering more about contaminants and debris accumulating over time than the effect on the coal ( leaves, acorns, sticks, gravel etc ) this would not be a big problem with a small pile of coal but may be with a rather large pile that would take you a good while to consume.
  15. How many keep their coal outside do you keep it covered at all I currently have about 4 tons and it is inside but have just been offered a fifty foot silo full of coal if i want it of coarse ill have to try it before i haul it home It could be good coal or it could be lousy coal but its worth taking a look at it
