  1. Extension cords are like women Its best to just use them like they are The more you try to change , manipulate , organize , control them the worse it gets. sometimes they come unraveled sometimes they get kinky most times they just lay there waiting for you to get up enough ambition to use them
  2. EZRA I personally prefer a hand crank blower and the champion 400 is my favorite I have some buffalos, and a tiger but still like the 400 better. My all time favorite is a champion 400 sixteen inch blower I can actually blow the coal out of the firepot if I really get down on it or I can have just a wisper if I want to just kiss the fire when I am welding. I believe that I have a whole lot more control over my fire with a hand crank than with an electric blower I also feel that I consume less coal with one. I have three good size forges in my forge and they all have hand crank blowers on them One is the 16" and the other two are 12 or 14" Ive never seen another champion 16" blower before so I snatched this one up when I found it. I still have the electric blowers that I started out with but doubt that I will ever use them. My portable forges have champion 400 also but are 8" Mike
  3. Yeah when the 50 lbs came to a screetching halt when the rope came off of the pulley it was painfull ( also he was pulling it from a little to one side )
  4. SWE_karl You need to calculate the weight of each gate and add the weight of one or two children swinging on the gate and then make sure that the post or whatever is supporting the gate is substantial enough to not allow the gate to sag
  5. The rope was too stretchy and old and kept coming off the pulley ( Josh wasnt giving out , you can see the pain on his face when it came to a dead stop ) Him and Peyton were having a blast playing with it
  6. The rings are most likely band saw blades Sell them to a bladesmith to make a damascus knife blade and take the money and buy a good knife.
  7. Dont try to milk the attendees out of their last dollar at every turn. Some can afford it but the majority of folks that want/need this type of event are on a budgit and one of the line items on their budgit is not blacksmithing conferences
  8. What kind of conference. who is the sponsor ? I think the largest draw for quad state is the amazing array of tailgaters.
  9. Peyton Anderson AKA primtechsmith showing someone something
  10. My grandson after a long day forging he never gave in and never gave out lasted all day long
  11. How about setting the forge right inside one of the doors and enclose around it in a manner that you dont mess up the existing frame or door and piping it that way
  12. Elfshadow14 There is no charge ( not even shipping ) I am from virginia also. Just need a physical address as UPS wont deliver to a P.O box Mike
  13. Elfshadow14 If you want to Personal message me with your address Ill send you a piece of track at no cost. this is the bigger rail. the only stipulation is that you dont have a suitable anvil and that this will help get you started. Mike Tanner Yesteryear Forge
  14. It has a varriable blows per minute the longer you pull on the rope the less beats per minute you can sustain
  15. Peyton aka ( Primtechsmith ) and my son Josh on the drop hammer
  16. Ive been trying for years to find someone that has actually forge welded a rifle barrell from flat bar All I have come up with is people that can tell me how its done from reading about it. I fired two rifles made by wallace gunsler the gunsmith at williamsburg years ago ( before this blacksmithing bug bit me ) I have built several kit guns but somehow it will never be the same as totally making one by hand.
  17. Hello back and welcome to the site
  18. Welcome Gene Your quest for knowledge will speed up greatly with the fine people on this site. dont be bashfull ask any and all questions Mike
  19. IM back east and I guess that I could be accused of hording things I have 22 anvils from 25lb to 560lb / 13 post vises, various styles of hand crank blowers, hand crank post drills, pedal grinders, swage blocks and on and on. I just cant help it ( I think it is a genetic default that I have ) I cant seem to let one pass when I find it , especially if it is a decent price. I dont do this for a living but I am a proffesional amature. Mike
  20. Approx 34" tall made from 5x5x1/2 angle block is 18 x 18 x 4 1/2 thick ----another one that size in a factory stand about a foot tall -- the rest are light enough to use on the anvil or table Mike
  21. A little better photo of the working end of the hammer
