  1. After an Angioplasty Thursday my dad developed complications, speech slurred, and hard to form cohesive sentences. went back to Hospital after his temp reached 103F. I was called in from work Monday morning, he was not expected to last much longer, was very gray and not able to breath, pulse at 152 with very low BP, before losing consciousness he begged the doctors to let it end, he said doesn't want to live this way... (he does have a living will) he is now on a respirator and stable. He was stabilized with in the 2 hours it took me to drive to the hospital His temp is still 103F. I am holding up much better than the rest of the family, and I have managed to remain clean.
  2. I find it funny, reading a statement of: Lets all join together and send in this petition to state our rights to NOT want to join together. LOL sorry but its a bit contradictory isn't it? In fact, most unions are the very people that make up its membership We as members make the choices to work or not to work, I like working and making money, I would rather take a pay cut than a lay off. also we DO remove people that wont pull their own weight. Also we have a "fire at will" policy, and if a member is removed for cause 2x in a year, there is a hearing with the union officers, 3x and most members are gone for being dead weight. Remember there was NO safety laws before unions. remember the company towns and company scripts for payment ? a worker being told to do this job, if its safe or not, and when they get hurt and lose am arm so they cant work, as a direct result of the dangerous equipment, are thrown out like the trash? 3. Actually, Al nuggets are added to a steel melt to float off the dross... just as limestone is used in cast iron. I have forged Al, some alloy's are fine, also some alloys do get HT for aerospace things... as for rolls of foils, Is this guy serious or just trolling???
  4. while his blades are always first rate, some, ;like this one, are just plain Exceptional...
  5. Maiden hair is a tight twist with a high layer count. you got a nice little chevron, dont want to scare ya but ya can twist even tighter... ya did good.
  6. if not let me know..... I would be interested
  7. a nice 3 color is Dr Hrisoulas infamous Mad 6 mix. M2 A2 and D2 forge welded, makes a strong knife too
  8. the addition of Mn isn't exactly deep hardening, more like medium hardening. The 0.4% of Chrome will make it deep hardening, lousy for getting a Hamon, but great for a larger blade that will take a Beating and stay in shape! I would get some 1074 + .4 Chrome and use it. Also I wish I could get O2 as it makes for very dark layers in pattern welded billets, I heard it called O1 without the nasty stuff.
  9. The members and staff of I Forge Iron.com run a "G rated" forum. This rating was determined by the owner, Glenn, and is enforced at his request by all of us here. We do have very young children as members, and I personally know of at least one member whose eyes are failing to the point he cant surf this site, if it were not for his (under 10 yr old) grand children reading the pages to him. Which is something that can not be said for many web sites. IFI has been regarded as safe by most anyone for their children and grand children to read aloud to anyone. I personally have a rougher speech than my mother in laws likes, but I must admit I have no fear of my grandchildren seeing anything on here. Thanks for understanding
  10. Amen to that Bob, you did both yourself and the daughter of the deceased good sharing the profits like that.
  11. http://www.securitysteelsupply.com/ is where i get mine, 5160H has a tighter tolerance for the alloy elements so heat treat is more accurate too.
  12. I had to do it the same way for the L-6/1085 inner cores for the hammer billets I made for rthibeau, a real pain but satisfying.
  13. It is with tears in my eyes that I post: my friend and former bladesmithing teacher William W Wyant has passed away from a heart attack Wednesday night. Founder and operator of Avalon Iron works for many years, is most likely at this moment trying to get in a bid to refurbish the pearly gates with new iron work. I will miss him, and the smithing world has lost a great smith. I would like all to let anvils ring for Bill at noon this Sunday May 16. Rest well my Brother, My anvil will continue to ring because of you and your time to train me.
  14. with most our blade steels it does not matter much if they are air cooled or fast cooled to get tempering temp to room temp. There may be some that do matter, but I aint heard of them yet :)
  15. Watch? LOL wear work clothes, smithing in my shop aint a spectator sport, YOU are gonna forge here... I may help a bit, but you are gonna get hands on....

  19. If you really want to learn more, try reading in the blade section of this forum for many posts on this, including blade steels, and heat treating of blades.
