  1. I'm thinking I'll use some mine rail. I have several small anvils made from it and they do the job.
  2. I have a request from a customer for one. Anybody ever try and build one? He says it won't have anything larger than a tack hammer used on it. How abour RC?? I thinkl it can be shaped on the hammer then filed/ ground to finish.

  10. Another neat touch is line the throat with a piece of velvet that has a pretty stiff nap. It will help retain the knife in the sheath.
  11. I use a forstner bit to clean out the bulk of the wood then clean it up with a chisel.

  14. Keep in mind that "spring steel" is a pretty general term. Spring steel can be anything from 5160, 9260, 1095, actually most of the 10xx series plus many more.

  17. Not knowing the chemical makeup of the sawblade, start at 400 and watch the oxide colors. I'd take it to a vermillion color for a cleaver , mebbe a little past. You could also try a n edge quench, getting the entire cleaver up to temp., then let the heat of the blade bleed into the edge , tempering it. It's a bit tricky but works on hawks.
  18. Yep, what Frosty said with the addition of a normalizing sequense after grinding. That means taking to a red heat then allowing to cool several times. Removes grinding stresses.
