    Usually i use a big hammer to flattten the leaf, about 3 good blows does it, that way there are no dents in the leaf because the whole surface of the hammer came into contact with the leaf. Bb

    Hi Jacques Thanks for the post its allways nice to find new places that sell blacksmith tools, there are not a lot of them around in Sa so if you find any more please dont be shy to share! Ill be sure to go and have a look at tools and things, cheers Andre

    Well i had to install my wallsafe by bolting it to a brick wall. Drilled 3 holes no problem, imagine my surprise when i drilled the fourth and hot water came shooting out the hole!! lol it took me another 3 hours to mop up the water and fix the pipe. May have been better to invest in one of those contraptions that find pipes and wires in walls lol, thats the way we learn! sigh. Bb

    Nice forge looks like you put a lot of time and effort into making it, hope you have lots of fun productive forging with it! Would it be easier to move around if you put bigger wheels on it? Just a thought. It looks great! Bb

    Welcome Theimi Good to hear about other blacksmiths in SA. I know of Conrad Hicks down in Cape Town, great guy who has been doing blacksmithing for a long time. Conrad Hicks artist blacksmith if you want to visit his site. Or maybe go see him his workshop is in Cape Town, adress is on his site. Hope this helps! cheers Andre

    Bryce that really looks great. It does look like you have a natural artistic talent. Keep on hammering! Only one slight suggestion id make...on your base maybe you could round the sharp edges a bit? I you put it on display somewhere those corners may be a nasty toe stubber lol But it looks gr8 keep it up! Thanks for sharing Bb

    Hmm seems to me it would be easyer to heat and straighten and then forge and retemper it isnt all that hard to temper 5160. Bb

    G-clamps! I clamp my post vice to the forge table using a g-clamp, that way I can move vice and table separately. Should be handy for demos where you dont want things to be too heavy to move. The clamp secures the postvice quite securely. Bb

    Maybe usefull as eye punches or rivet sets- just expand the hollow bit on the front end a bit.
