  1. This is my portable fix for my anvil addiction :)
  2. Just wondering what a 226 lb Peter Wright is worth in the South East US. I told the guy I would give him fair market value for it. He does not want to price it but, wants to sell it. Not as if I need a anvil. I have two now and was wanting one over 200 lbs is all. He claims it's in very good shape with very little dings in it. I'd have to look at it to see for sure. Just wondering what a good starting price is. I don't want to beat him nor do I want to get beat. Thanks Scott No pics to post as of yet.
  3. Agreed!! If I'm welding, odds are I'm gonna be using my torch at some point. Most of the time before I even start the welder. A good set of torches is a MUST have item in the shop.
  4. Many years ago when I went to welding school. (1988) I had to learn how to puddle with a welding tip on a torch. Once I could do that I went on to using filler wire to make a bead of weld. Then on to a butt joint and T joint. If you can get good with a torch just about everything else in welding comes with ease. It's a really good platform to start out on. I have 3 stick welders and all three of them are more or less useless without a good torch. My suggestion is to find you a welding school and join (if you have the time). You can learn more in a few months than you can in years figuring it out for yourself. Welding is a wonderful trade and it pays well if you get into the right field. Good welders are in high demand at the moment too. Scott

I bought this little vice back in the summer. The guy had it in the back of his truck and I spotted it. I was like, I would like to have a vice like that and he said it was for sale. When he said $200, I thought that's rather high for a vice. Well the more I thought about it the more I wanted it. I seen him the next day and bought it. I got it home and did some research on it and found it was a Wilton 6 Inch Machinist Vice. They list (new) for around $1,100. Yes it was used but not that much. For the price I gave for it I think I did ok. Scott
  6. You can also buy a shade 5 face shield and headgear. They make them for hard hats and just to go on your head without the hats. The face shield will let you use your glasses and it also give you full view of whatever you are looking at. http://www.amazon.com/Sellstrom-35050-Shade-Window-Faceshield/dp/B000LB4P72 http://www.activeforever.com/p-16183-willson-protecto-shield-8-12-x-15-x-060-shade-5-propionate-faceshield.aspx?CMPID=Froogle_willson-protecto-shield-8-12-x-15-x-060-shade-5-propionate-faceshield
  7. What plant do you work at Zig? I'm at Widows Creek at the moment. Union Boilermaker
  8. His own show would HAVE to be better than the junk they play on TV now!
  9. Never to early to teach them the safe way to do things.
  10. Think I'll borrow ya pattern if you don't mind. Nice looking press. You could use some AR 400 for your dies if you want something to wear better. It will weld with preheat but, still hold up rather well. Scott
  11. 7018 is a good rod to use for most things but, on the tines you should use something like 9018 up 11018. Still low hydrogen but a much stronger.
  12. Don't know if we have a game section but, here's a fun little game that will make you pull your hair out. http://www.playedonline.com/game/598420/rotate-roll.html

This one followed me home today.
  15. I've made lots of money over the years with a buzzbox. Rather good machines and will do you a lifetime if you keep it dry and take care of it.
  16. If you are looking for a winch, you should look into a skidder or dozer winch. They run off of a drive shaft.
  17. Nice looking anvil but, way to high on the price.
  18. Don't know your location but, here's a machine worth the money. Miller makes as fine of a welder as money can buy. http://www.golsn.com/listings/equipment-tools/tools-parts/1655232.html
  19. I can buy it for $150. Think I'm gonna go get it tomorrow afternoon. Should be well worth the money.
  20. Just wondering if anyone knows what type of anvil this is? Thanks Scott
  21. Was on youtube today and found this. Many of you may have seen it but, here it is for those of you who have not.
  22. I would save my $39.99 and put it towards a better anvil. I understand it's not always easy to come up with the money most folks are asking for their anvils but, if you buy a quality anvil, it should do you a lifetime.

Thank you Phil I ordered the plans for Clay Spencer's tirehammer. I'm hoping to have one up and running by fall. I'll need a good forge as well.

I soooooo need to build me a gas forge. I love to use coal but, it's getting harder to find. I have everything to put the forge together but, the plans for a burner and insulation. I would be happy to buy it if I could find it here in Tennessee. I may have to order it online. Anyone know of a good place to get the proper insulation for a gas forge? Scott
  25. Log yards are a good place to find cable as well. I'm sure if you ask they would be happy to give it to you. It's where I got mine and the guys were more than happy to see it go.
