  1. That is some really interesting stuff! I like Frosty's idea also. Keep up the good work.
  2. Now that's some really great stuff!!!!!! That's the the kind of style I would really love to learn! Thanks for posting the pics!
  3. I was just given a post vise(what a great day)! The only problem is that center top of one of the jaws has an one inch chip out of it. I was wondering what would be the best way to fix it, if I weld it, what type of welding wire or rod should I use and should I temper the weld to soften it to keep it from chipping again? The chip is along the top of the jaw. Any suggestions are more than welcome.
  4. That's great work! I hope it brings a lot of money for the brush fire recovery.
  5. You shouldn't fell stupid but educated through a life experience!!!!!!!!
  6. Great job! Does the rest of your forge tools look as good as the shovel?
  7. That's outstanding!!!!! Do you have a web site so I can drool some more? I really enjoy the finer craftsmenship of metal!
  8. That look like a beary nice jig! Hehe! What is the thickness of the angle iron?
  9. That's the start of something really good. You might want to check out the blacksmiths anounamous thread now that you will be getting that iron itch!

  11. I finally got it to come up thanks yall. That is a very interesting interview! Thanks Glenn!
  12. It doesn't come up when I click on the link for some reason.
  13. In the shop that I work at we have metal tables and we draw out the railing in full scale. I use pathagorous theorem to figure slopes and angles and such, plus it is just a good way to cross check measurements taken at the job site. But I guess I got of topic. At home I use concrete or a piece of plywood.
  14. The signs could be used for folders to hold paperwork, I've also used them to make templets for making multiple parts. They could be put in the bottom your shoes to cover any holes in the soles so you don't wear holes in your socks.
  15. That's a nicely built stand! $5, you can't beat that with a stick, but a hammer difinately!
  16. Where did you get the Hofi Anvil? A search on the web just brings up articles, blogs, etc. Thanks

  17. I've got a couple of stumps I use for forming. Frosty is right, you just start hammering hot metal on it and it will start to burn a shape in it and give a nice smell! I think I seen something on youtube where someone was using a stump, but not for certain.
  18. I use a plank of white ash. Hickory is great but I prefer ash. it seems to let less of the vibration, from impact, from traveling up my hand and arm. But thats just my belief. If you hit hickory on something hard it gives you a high, hollow, dinging sound, ash when you hit it sounds more of a deep thud sound. I'm not for certain but I believe that ash is just a hair softer, which seems to absorb more vibration. But I could have it all wrong. I use 48" sander to form my handles, you can knock out a few of them in pretty good time!
  19. that is outstanding work you ought to be proud!

  24. You can go to that persons election board office and ask if you can volunteer to pick up signs as your duty to the country, hehehe. They should be able to tell you where they are and a lot of signs are on public land, intersections, right of way on highways, and such. Have fun scavenging.
