    I mostly use my flypress for bending up brackets and handles for the grit blasters that I make. The best modification I came up with was teaching my wife how to use it :lol:

    I am going to give my wife a shock and cook this for her, I don't think Pace Picante sauce is available here in the UK and I do not know what it is,Does anyone know what would be similar that I could use as a substitute, thanks for the recipe HWH11 and to anybody who replies with a solution.     Nice pictures James, I paid a visit to the V&A about 14/15 years ago just to see this bench. Up to that time to me ornamental metalwork meant mostly scrolls and such like, this piece changed everything for me.

    Are you talking about penny welding? clamping a bit of copper between 2 pieces of steel and sticking it in the fire? Goodinnit?

    Something must be different, Is the steel getting hotter than normal or is the water colder than normal, or is your eyesight just getting better? Good to hear about your daughter, a lot to catch up on.

    I get sidetracked so easily, I'll do anything other than what I should be doing. I have been told it's called "Peter's Syndrome". It's not life threatening I will just never be rich or know what retirement is. If someone knows the solution, please tell :unsure:

    I thought the recipe for the clay floor was interesting, especially the bulls blood. Also the link with the clogs to tread it down and how all the canals were lined the same way.My house is 300 years old made with bricks from the field across the road, so the bit about firing them was good.

    Was it Henry Ford who once said "If you need a machine BUY IT because pretty soon you will have paid for it and still do not have it" Hopefully my first power hammer becomes operational today, 27 years after I bought my house and shop and when I really needed the hammer but couldn't afford it, now I can afford it but do not really need it but I still wanted it:D

    Icy roof..........building on fire..mmmmm small window of opportunity I'm thinking. Now tying a dog to a wall, or, whats the word I'm looking for???????? yes.. Bondage!!!!...... maybe a business opportunity:D I once knew a smith in London, made a fortune out of.....that's another story.

    Glenn, that is the new see through chimney, Health & Safety insist on them over here, so vision across the shop is not impaired. When lighting the fire,hold your breath for 30 seconds,with all windows and doors closed of course so the smoke goes straight up, once it starts drawing you can start breathing again. If you still have the old fashioned opaque chimney (non see through) you can cut a section out:D

    Thanks for that pearl of wisdom Sam, I came across an estate gate and piece of rail. I have been treating it like royalty, thinking about how best to use it. Perhaps a bit of Damascus? Figurine? Now you tell me it is a piece of bad, worse, worst or whatever silly classification they gave to crap wrought iron. So where can I find a bit of best best best lying about just waiting for me to come along?:D:D
