LDW
I went by a crafts store and picked up a leather stamp, this is my second attempt at decorating the leather. This sheath took me about 5 hours to make. The knife is a 14.5 inch long cable knife made from 1 inch diameter cable. I did not etch it very long, just enough to see the pattern when it is in your hand.
tech413
Looks good, I like the handle. Have any close ups of the pattern?
me miller
Sir, i can say you picked one of the hardest stamps to make sure it lines up right. You did an outstanding job of keeping it straight. Very nice. Mike
LDW
This pic of the blade may be a little better. I dyed the sheath, then after it dried suberged it in parafin and mink oil paste that was heated to 180 degrees. Thanks fellows, for the kind words. Frosty
That looks pretty darned good. I'd have a ball describing just how hard it was to forge THAT cable twist handle. Of course I have an out of control sense of humor. Frosty
brucegodlesky
Great job on your cable!! Nice sheath also. You do that on a hammer or by hand? bruce/birdog
MRobb
Great looking knife! The dyed sheath turned out really nice.
nashdude
Very nice, dude. I bet the thickness of the cable sits better in the hand than some of those loop handles that you see on other blades. Good job :)
MetalMuncher
Nice dude! How does one weld cable anyway? Just heat, flux and hammer? Or untwist first? Really nice work!
John Martin
Excellent job, like the offest of the handle. Good job on te sheath as well!

markb
Nice work the leather really took on an aged look after the treatment. I like those old stanley boxwood folding rules too. I have several, but don't think I have that one. Do you know what number it is? I have a # 32 but don't think thats it. MetalMuncher
Just gonna bug some more...Howd you heat reat it? Is HT the same thing for regular knives? Thanks again!
LDW
It was heated to about 1550 degrees F then edge quenched in oil. I used an infra red heat gun to tell when it was up to temperature. As soon as I can get to a hardness tester I will let you know what it checked out at.

andy ebbers
posts like this give me even more motivation to overcome hurdles & get my shop up and running. You are doing great work, and I thank you for sharing your methods! The sheath making has me more worried than the rest, but it looks as if you are well on your way on the sheaths. Thanks again, that is a fantastic knife, even more so due to your handle design! A.J.
