tech413 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Today I picked up a 160# Vulcan! This is the first "real" anvil that I have bought. I paid $325 CDN for it (like $7US ) with the block that its on, I don't think it was a bad deal. Its got great rebound, the face and edges are in great shape. I can't wait to start beating steel on it tomorrow! Let me know what you guys think. Here are the pics. Quote
Sam Salvati Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a very nice anvil, looks in great condition too. Quote

Frosty Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I think for $7 USD you got taken but to be sure you should ship it to me for testing and I'll let you know. Nice score and a fair price from what I see. Good for you. Frosty Quote
TASMITH Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Hey, good score. that is a dandy anvil and some hammers too! Looking a lot like Christmas! Good for you. Happy hammering! Quote

divermike Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Ok, so now you have your anvil, beware, there is a disease out there that makes us buy MORE anvils, even though we can really only work on 1 at a time, it starts with one, then a deal comes along, man I've got to have that one too!! You can see how it goes from there. It silently creeps into your mind that more hammers are good, more hardies, more tooling of every kind, and once you have the disease, there is no known cure. But we do have a support group, when you feel you are sliding down that slippery slope, make sure to admit it to yourself, then post on the blacksmiths anonymous thread, we will be waiting brother!! I only have about 12 of them... Started with a 127kg that was a bit heavy to take to the rennfairs, so I bought a 50kgs. Then I heard that Kohlswa wouldnt continue with their C51 (48kgs) so... :D Quote
tech413 Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 Yeah, I figure I'll be buying more. The guy I bought it from is an aniques dealer that specializes in tools and I left him my phone number:o. I'm sure I'll be getting some calls.:D Quote

John Martin Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 "I paid $325 CDN for it (like $7US )" I did a quick check and a canadian dollor is almost the same value as an american dollar, so what did I or you do wrong calculating that???? But, excellent anvil, good find, now put it to use. Quote

tech413 Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 LOL!!! The canadian dollar was worth like 5 or 10 cents more a few months ago, but I think canadian dollar is only like 85 cents US now, sucks!! Quote
jwmotley Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Sounds like you did good, enjoy it and use it as often as you can. I am now the proud owner of 3 anvils, 112 lb of unknown origin,280 lb Fisher and a 40 lb Fisher, and I want MORE!!! Quote
