I would not even know where to find a rally in the states. Closest we get is NASCAR and Indie car, both of which i find boring. I have watched rallies on TV and they are much more exciting than NASCAR.

The fastest car i ever drove was  7.8 sec. at 180MPH. 1400 HP 1986 Olds Cutlass. The race is over in the blink of an eye but when you launch the car, the adrenalin rush is insane. The car would have run a faster time but we could not get the rear wheels to keep traction, spun them on almost every launch.

My daughter was home schooled through a charter school, one of the kids in her graduating class had been racing in Europe and was getting his open wheel license. Charter schools are online so school was where ever there is an internet connection.

What search terms did you use Billy? I use "Duck Duck Go" largely because it doesn't permit advertising until you click on a search result of course. Anyway, there seem to be a number of Rallies in the US, some pretty large.

There are more but Deb and I have to go.

Later, Frosty The Lucky.

I cannot image how fast it is billy. It is for sure faster than i ever accelerated.

You learn to appreciat a  good back support

It is crazy sometimes how big sport events from all over the globe have 1 blind zone, north amerika.

And how they have world championships in sports that only are played there.

It is very weird.

Good thing you lot like sailing. Still waiting for one crazy to do the vendee globe.

That's a good time for a modified stocker, Billy. I can remember when that would've been a winner for a gas rail and heck fuelers weren't doing much better than 230mph and mid-low 7s. Not having the tires break loose is one advantage to a fluid drive tranny. That was many years later though.

I clearly remember the first time a rear engine rail showed up at the dragstrip, I knew the driver but it's been a long time. Heck, I don't know how many of those guys are still alive, I was pretty young, not old enough to take a run on the strip.

Tony Nancy used to stand by the hot pit gate and shoot the breeze with me waiting on his mechanic to roll in. Nice guy, easy to talk to but fearless on the strip. One thing the guys driving modern dragsters don't experience, the old front engine ones did, was driving down the tunnel of fire. The exhaust points upwards and outwards and the engines have to run rich or they'll melt the pistons so the driver has a view under the bug catcher intake scoop past the intake manifold between two pale purple yellow flames that extend over and past.

Frosty The Lucky.

I have been around drag racing all my life. My dad and his buddies were all drag racers so as a kid it was Friday nights cruisin the local Frisch's, back when a girl on roller skates hung a tray on your window, with the Chevelle. We had a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 4 on the floor my dad bought used from a drivers ed school. Then Saturday night it was at he drag strip with what ever car my dad was racing at the time. The ones i really remember were the 56 Belaire and the 72 Camaro.

When i was in high school i had a 70 Nova 350 that ran high 12's. Back then that was fast.

I know we have rallies here i just do not ever hear about them. My mentor at work used to work on a team that ran those 24 hour races. He also has a 2020 (i think) Corvette he used to race. I think he is more into raising mules now though.

By time I was old enough to race I had a full time job, taking college classes at night and didn't have time. The close drag strip was closed, they even removed the asphalt, trenched across the strip, tore down fences stands lights, everything. Bare lot. It started out as an airstrip in the 30s and people just started racing on it when a newer larger Van Nuys airport was opened to the public. The announcer used the old control tower even.

One of my best friends through school, Rod, was/is big into drag racing and we hit a Winter Nationals held at Irwindale IIRC and one other. Rod hit them all and almost made it as a pro drag racer but broke his back too many times. Still he's very much into racing in general and in fact lives at the Indianapolis speedway. I got a call from him in a sort of round about way. I never knew there were a number of houses in the infield and Rod owns one. Crazy drag racers!

You don't want to know about the drag strip here in the valley, it's pitiful, gas only and mostly street cars, some super stockers but no chest hammering roar of a fueler leaving the line and I don't think there's ever been a Name race here.

<sigh>

Frosty The Lucky.

Well, i went and did it Saturday. The color is called underground, or what most of us would just call dark grey.

It looks right at home in the shade Billy. It is simple dark gray or metallic? Isn't everything but white or black, metallic now days?

Enjoy the new truck smell while it lasts. B)

Frosty The Lucky.

Nice truck Billy. I hope you enjoy it as much or more than I enjoy my Tundra.

Keep it fun,

David

I photographed some flowers.  I'm not just a rugged, manly amateur blacksmith.  I have my tender side, too.

It is actually not a metallic. I noticed a lot of Toyota colors are not metallics now though. I did not get the sport model becuase all they had in that was either black or white.

I have never really driven anything newer than a 2013 and all this new technology is taking some time to get used to.

Melted socks, i absolutely love those flowers. Stargazer lilies, yes? I used to grow purple and dark red ones. I just wished they would last a bit longer through spring and summer.

I have a really nice stand of iris and tulips that have just started growing. I never planted a tulip in my life and in the middle of a small stand off trees, tulips coming up. I trimmed back some evergreens when we first bought the house and between them was a scraggly little rose bush. Since clearing out and getting it some sun it has now gotten almost out of control and gets these really pretty pink roses that you can smell through the house when the windows are open.

My app says they're Barbados lillies, a type of amaryllis.

Learning lockpicking.

You forgot the emoji

I have a freind who is a locksmith and he makes a very good living. However it is not from actually opening and rekeying locks but something or other to do with reprogramming ATM machines.

I make parts for Sargent & Greenleaf locks, very high dollar, very secure locks. They make locks for things like bank vaults. If you ever wonder who makes those little pins you are pushing up, well that is me.

I’m thinking about getting one of those repinnable practice locks; I’m already starting to get the hang of this little beastie.

I replaced the starter in my 2012 GMC Sierra.  Sort of a preemptive replacement.  It's been acting up.  Took a couple of hours.  Not too frustrating.

I used the air over hydraulic jack that I took of my yard relic today (my old forging press).  Worked like a charm.

  • 2 weeks later...

Almost 2 weeks now busy with my car. Had some minor rustspots.

Wel it turns out, rust is an iceberg.

To fix the chassis good, the rear axle needs to be removed, but no time to do that. Will be in wintertime, inside.

Have to install an airco (original only for the compressor) and i want to go on holiday with my car in august.

Pffff. I can smell the end. I hope tomorrowafternoon to start sanding for the final primerlayers

That's a LOT of work Gewoon! I'm sure you're happy to be getting close but I don't know if I'd tell folks I can "Smell the end". You have no idea of how tempting a straight line that is for a born joker like me. I'm having a heck of a time controlling myself and not making a joke about smelling ends!

You are a cruel CRUEL man Gewoon.

I'm glad to call you friend, Frosty The Lucky.

Ha sorry, direct translation from a dutch expression "het einde ruiken".

My brain is a bit fried after all the sanding dust

Oh don't apologize, your meaning was perfectly obvious and a good example of different cultures and languages. Besides you put a big smile on my face :D imagining all the possible ways I could get in trouble with the moderators.

Sometimes I wish I knew how some of the things I say translate in other languages.

It's all good Gewoon.

Frosty The Lucky.

Gewoon, i have no envy of that job in the least. I can tear down and rebuild engines, trannies, diffs, tranfer cases, etc. but body work and wiring repairs are 2 of the things i loathe.

I got under the dash of a VW once looking for a wiring problem. The schematic said something like the A-12 connector wire 7 going to A-13 connector wire 2, white wire. Every wire under the dash was white.

I used to love working on cars until i started doing it professionally.

I get to go have another tooth pulled. Woke up yesterday my face swollen, lots of pain, and a low grade fever. So until the infection is gone i will have to deal with it, dentist wont pull it if it is infected. Just hope the pain is gone by Thursday, got a 5 day weekend coming up and i sure do not want to spend it laid up with a bad tooth.

Good luck healing billy.

I don't want to work on cars profesional. I "hate" doing it on my own car. Also everything is to flimsy. I cam weld, but i struggle every time with the 1,25mm plates, it is not welding, you stich it together. My patience runs out quick.

Tonight wetsanding the primer and paintprepping for another layer of primer.
