Bud in PA
I am on a fixed income and don't have extra money, a common problem. I've got a couple of 3 pound hammers, a cross peen and a sledge. With my aches and pains I was thinking of taking my angle grinder to them to get them down to 2 pounds. I use to be a truck driver and never worried about lifting anything until it went over 125 pounds. Now I struggle to get a 50 pound bag of dog food in the house. These are HF hammers so no great loss if I ruin them. I do have a 2 pound ball peen to use. Will I damage my hammers? Frosty
I can think of a couple ways without grinding the faces off. You could try thinning the waist between eye and face with the grinder or perhaps by drilling a series of holes a short depth and heck grind the remainder between off. I'd pick your least favorite and experiment, see if you can make it work for you. You are keeping your eyes open at garage, yard, etc. sales. Yes? Frosty The Lucky. ThomasPowers
So "I'm going to damage my hammers; will this damage my hammers?" Now "Will it improve them for your use?" As HF hammers I would not be worried...

JHCC
For what it's going to cost you in grinding disks, electricity, and time, you might as well buy a 2lb HF hammer.
lary
I've found hammers pretty cheap at the local rebuild/recycle place, sometimes the handles have to be fixed. I was also going to suggest a 2 to 2 1/2 lbs from HF for the same reason.
anvil
I agree with replacing, not griding, even on a fixed income. Check out your local flea markets, second hand stores, and antique stores as well.
