ArmySoldier72
Admin, if there is a better place for this thread, please move it as you see fit. BLUF: I am wondering if anyone might know what the two pictured metal items might be? There is about 15 acres of dry ground that can not be used for growing crops. SO many moons ago, I believe before the previous owner, this property had the dry ground being harvested by a rock company. We don't know how deep they went, or even what they were pulling out of the ground. Up around that area I found these two heavy metal items (pictures). We have been speculating that it might be from a grader or dozer but we have no idea at all. the smaller piece, you can see the bottom plate is 1 1/2 " or thicker. We are curious, and I WANT THAT PLATE. 8-) ARMY
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Kinda looks like a dragline bucket part to me.
Frosty
That sounds like plausible Randy, I don't think it's part of a scraper gate. Everybody who finds a cutting edge (knife) off a piece of earth moving equipment tends to grab it and start making plans. I have a couple shorter pieces of grader edge I have plans for maybe someday. Unfortunately the steel is almost unworkable at a normal human level. It's alloyed to be very abrasion resistant. You need blue stones and grinding disks to touch the stuff. I don't know about THAT edge but if you want an idea do a web search for "Vascowear" and take a look at the ingredients. Frosty The Lucky. ArmySoldier72
IronDragon - hmmm interesting thought. Frosty, I was initially thinking i could use it as a ASO but then i got the ACME Anvil. Now I am not sure... is the thinner back or ribs useful? ARMY
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I worked for a while as an oiler on a dragline. One of my friends father was the operator. He had amazing control of the bucket. I always wished I could be as accurate when casting for bass as he was with the dragline bucket. Scott NC
That looks like a good start to a very large Spinosaurus metal sculpture, from my point of view....
Frosty
It should be good and way more workable steel than the edge but you'll need to test is. A Spinosaurus or dimetrodon maybe. My first thought was a segmented body or a giant grin. Frosty The Lucky.
Scott NC
Lol, I missed the grin.... Add a couple of Thomas's water barrels for eyes, and.... and....
Frosty
Maybe a semi tire mustache? I LOVE brainstorming this stuff, I can get my crazy silly out! Frosty The Lucky.
Scott NC
Silly but fun. Just don't start dreaming at night about these things. A shredded semi tire off the interstate would work well. It would look more strandy and realistic. If you found two you could add a gotee.
Frosty
Hmmmmm, if you find one of those compact spare tires you could weld a 40lb. propane on and the spare could be a nose ring. Frosty The Lucky.
Scott NC
What are your thoughts on a head bone to prop all this up?
JHCC
Just so long as it's connected to the neck bone.
Scott NC
Now I'll have that ditty stuck in my head all night.... Let's see.... The neck bones connected to the spine bone? I better google this...

Scott NC
Yeah, where's Frosty when you need him? He starts all this kind of stuff and then signs off. We could run with a lumberjack sculpture.... You think it would take one of those expensive cranes to assemble? Judging by the size of the teeth?
M.J.Lampert
we don't have to use it all say we make the mouth 3-4' and everything proportional to that? I'll grab a tree for the axe handle and we'll use a grader blade to make a wrapped head
Scott NC
Army must be agahst at where his topic has gone. Can we build it at your place, MJ?
George N. M.
A giant lumberjack? In the upper midwest that would be Paul Bunyan. And if you build Paul you have to build his blue ox, Babe. "Yumpin' yiminy, I tink I go back a vork in the lumber mills in Visconsin. Ya shure. Uff Da!"
Scott NC
Yumpin yimeny! Yeorge, since you mentioned Babe, I think you should have the honor of making the plow! You can get the dimensions from the Grand Canyon and Puget Sound. Start at once.....
Frosty
I take a couple hours off to run some errands and check the mail and look where you've taken this. If you're going for Paul and Babe you need to start scrounging cement truck drums for Paul's biceps. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
And a whole lot of blue paint!
