We used to use hand rubbed tung oil for wooden handles; was one of the daily jobs to rub another layer on to knives that were handled and waiting. Best ones looked like you were staring into the wood an inch or two! (An impossibility with handle slabs!)

The way I see it, you might have gone a little heavy on the clear coat 

I like Formby's satin tung oil. Like Thomas said hand rubbed at least 6 coats.

Thanks y'all. I appreciate it. I don't actually have any clear coat on it at all, just a single cost of stain.

I'll be sure to put up a picture once I've done a couple coats of them tung oil.
