larrynjr Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Not that I'm excited or anything but I just got off the phone with Nimba Anvils and have ordered my Gladiator. He thinks it likely that it should be here by Friday! WooHoo!!! Quote
pete46 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I'm Waiting To Enjoy A New Anvil Vicariously ; Through You! Hurry It Up !:D Quote
larrynjr Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 Slightly less excited now, Jim called me back to give me the shipping quote and said the shippers had told him 5 days for delivery, which is the longest time he can remember for anything shipped west of the Rockies. Oh well, I've waited this long, a few more days won't kill me. Quote
Candidquality Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Congratulations. Nimba is a great anvil. Should last you for the next 8-10 generations. Quote
simmonds Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 THAT is what I am wanting....Man I am so jealous. Maybe it will get lost in shipping and end up a little south of you. :) Quote
larrynjr Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 Chris, it can be mis-shipped to you as long as the shipping company makes good on their mistake by bringing me another one! All it took was my tax refund for this year and a couple of extra month's to save up the rest. Quote
simmonds Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Good for you! I would find it hard to sleep at night waiting on that beauty. What anvil were you pounding on before? Quote
larrynjr Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 I started like many others using a piece of RR Track then purchase a Harbor Freight Russian cast steel anvil and that's what I've been using for the past few years. Though at the classes I've taken from Jerry Culberson at Old Cedar Forge, I have used both the Gladiator and the Centurian anvils and liked them very much! Quote
Donnie Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 CONGRATULATIONS on the new Gladiator! Be sure to post a photo of the first thing forged on it. Quote
Frosty Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Congratulations Larry! Be sure to post a pic of your new baby when she arrives. Frosty Quote
simmonds Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 A picture of you standing next to it for reference to the the size of that monster would be nice! Quote
larrynjr Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 That will probably become my new profile picture. Quote
Travis Covington Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Now I'm getting anvil envy. Travis Quote
Sam Salvati Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 OHH LARRY, LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRY, WOW. Prepare yourself for awesome, AWESOME WARP 9! I can'r beleive you ordered the Gladiator, that anvil is HUGE! Let us know what you think of it. Quote
larrynjr Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 According to the tracking info, it will be going to visit Boise, ID before coming home to live with me. It is expected to arrive next Wednesday. Quote
simmonds Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Larry, what method of shipping are they using to deliver? And just how are they going to get that thing off the truck! :) Quote
larrynjr Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 A freight company named Con-way. I'm having it shipped to my work where they have a fork lift to take it off the truck. If I had them ship it directly to me and them bringing the forklift it would have cost a couple hundred more in shipping. I will trailer it home from work and am borrowing a friends engine hoist to move it around to it's working place once here. I'm planning on building a wood box / sand filled anvil stand to hold it. That way I can raise or lower it more easily till I find the best height for me. Quote
chyancarrek Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Congratulations Larry, A buddy of mine just bought one (he drove up to PT to get it) and he's just thrilled with how it performs! Take some pictures of the new "love" in your life. Make sure to include some pics of how you move it into your shop! Quote
larrynjr Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 I thought about driving to pick it up myself but cost of fuel these days, I'd be paying about the same to get it myself as it cost to have it delivered. Granted I'd get it quicker doing it myself but I'd need to take a day off work. I can wait. I'm pretty good at being patient. Quote
hdwarner Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 hey larry i have been a fan of rush for 30 plus years and thats the first time i recognized that lyric , heard it a zillion times but never put ti together The blacksmith and the artist Reflect it in their art Forge their creativity Closer to the heart (Rush) nice , what a nice signature Quote
larrynjr Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 Thanks Chuck, I also have been a Rush fan for years and have also been wanting a signature line that better reflects my feelings. I had forgotten that lyric until I heard it on the radio the other day and it was like "YEAH!" That's what I want! Quote
jimmy seale Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 well i guess rush won't get your anvil there faster, but congrats, poppa i am green with envy. enjoy, jimmy Quote
chyancarrek Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Hey Larry, Yeah, my friend really had to weigh the costs of going to get his anvil as well. He finally decided it would also just make a nice day trip and chocked it up to relaxation as well as getting the anvil. Oh man, the Rush lyrics are one of my favorites - I invite folks when they visit my shop to write their favorite quote or song lyric on the wall as I have them scrawled all over - those particular lyrics are in a prominent place. They resonate so well with me because of the bronze sculptor I work with. I just posted a link to a youtube video of his work and a casting session in the sculpture forum - give it a look if you get the chance! Quote
Frosty Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 That will probably become my new profile picture. How about a pic of you and your new baby together. Maybe a wedding picture, both of you get dressed up, a little cake, maybe some champaign. You know the usual. Frosty Quote
larrynjr Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 My Gladiator arrived today, I wasn't expecting it till Wednesday so I'm not completely ready to use it yet but I sure am happy to have it! You can see my HF anvil next to it for scale. Quote
