Hello

I have this leg vise tant I bought yesterday for 80$ CAD. Perfect condition, nothing is missing, 4" jaws. I was able to read St-Paul Works and there is a crown logo. There is also S&W beneath the crown.

I would like to get more info about this company. Around what years did they make these. I think it comes from Minnesota but I'm not sure.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Can't help you with info, just saying that's a good looking vise. You are now on the road to Damascus with St. Paul.

In a pinch, that vise will work just fine.

In all seriousness, that's a nice looking vise and you paid a good price for it.  It resembles Peter Wright vises I've seen and looks a lot like my 4 inch vise.

I just bought an F&W St. Paul Works 4-1/2" leg vise today. Did you ever find out any more information about yours that you could share?

I find it aqward and funny restoring old topics, but I don't think it's is violation of rules. I do it sometimes myself.

Oh no, there's nothing wrong with reviving old threads, that's why they're kept available forever.

I was just pointing out he was asking someone a question about an old thread. The poster hasn't posted since 2021 so sending him a Private Message (PM) might have a better chance of getting a response.

Good Morning,

Looking at the picture of the Post Vice, I can see that the outer (shorter) leg is bent. This causes the Jaws to be not parallel (square). This is from either over tightening or from years of work. I disassemble the Vice and use a Hydraulic Press to straighten the leg. Then it is good for another 50 years. No, they are not hardened or Heat Treated.
