The official "WOW i got a great deal" thread

How 'bout a 125# anvil (not sure of mfg, but has 125 stamped on the foot beneath the horn) for $100, a Roper-Whitney #16 punch for $256, and a 36" post vise (complete and in great working order) for $10? I also recently purchased an old forge with a "Hero" blower made in Chicago Heights, Ill. for $50. I'll post pics if interested when I get the blower reassembled.

I don't have pics, don't even own a cell phone; so I guess the LARGE screw press in excellent condition for a bid of US$50 (+15% buyer's reaming + $35 rigger's charge) didn't happen or the 515# Fisher in MINT condition for $350 or the 66 pound cast steel swedish anvil given to me, or the 6" postvise for $50, or the Pexto stake plate for under $10, etc and so on...

Here is a very cheap digital camera in your area.

could probably find a cheaper low megapixel camera at goodwill etc.

Very good then. Smoking deals are awesome!

4 pieces 33 inch x 48 inch X #11 galvanized sheet steel. FREE courtesy of my Dad and my late Grandfather (who I never met, he died before I was born) I needed my parents suburban to bring them home.

One piece will be pickled and made into the table for the forge my brother made a firepot for. The other 3 will get put in the garage for later.

Bob in my area in that it's not quite a 100 mile drive each way...so 2 weeks of my vice allowance to buy it and 2 weeks of my allowance to buy gas to get there and back, => me getting a camera so I can show other people the goodies I have? I'd rather buy scrap metal!

I've never had much luck with cameras digital or other. Would rather participate than stand back and take pictures.

This one was free. When a friend divorced she got the house in the city and he got the cottage at the lake. This was one of his ex wife's lawn ornaments at the cottage. "You want that old thing? It's all yours, just get it out of my sight because I'm tired of people tripping over it"!

I have paid $1/pound or less for many of my anvils. Whether that is a steal of a deal or not is debatable as is evident from the numerous threads that drone on about that magic number...

Edit, I forgot about the Champion 400 I got for free, the large Vulcan firepot I got for free, my current forge and blower that I got for free, I have about 5 leg vises I paid less than $30 each for, my 10" Wissota bench grinder I paid $30 for and the list goes on. I just watch local online classifieds very closely. As soon as I see the ad I contact the seller.

Should I mention that my first triphammer was a 25# LG for $75, my second was an odd no name homebuilt??? 50# one from a small town in OK back in the early 1980's for $250 and under power when I got it. The third was in 1990 in OH a 60 pound Champion under power for $700 the fourth was last year another 60# champion for $600 needing some work.

Still I feel outclassed, I helped a friend move a totally restored 25# LG that he got for $15, a friend who was a retired industrial machinery rebuilder was moving overseas and gave it to him for a lunch. Then the swordmaker I once worked with picked up a 250# LG in *beautiful* shape for $450 in the mid 1980's; sigh.
