jmccustomknives
Ok, it seems our local Radio Shack has stopped selling ferric chloride. Do you guys have any good recipes for alternate etching solutions that will work good on crane cable and for bringing out the hamon on 1095? jmccustomknives
Radio Shack here will not even talk about ordering it for me. They'd rather sell phones. I'll check ebay.
archiphile
Amazon has lab grade FeCh for roughly $31/pound

Frosty
Dissolve steel wool in HCL? Seems Radio Shack is more product sales oriented rather than build your own electronics oriented. More money in toys and phones I guess. Heck, it's a real pain to get water glass anymore, all chemicals are Hazmats and B-A-D you know. Frosty The Lucky. jmccustomknives
Thanks for the feedback, I ordered a gallon off ebay. I would rather do buisness locally, but sometimes you just can't.
Loneforge
Almost any electronics repair shop will carry PCB etchant. It's a 30% Ferric and 3% Hydrochloric solution that goes for about ten dollars a quart. 950 ml in Canada, any quantity larger than 1 litre here falls under TDG rules (transportation of dangerous goods). I diluted mine 3:1 with tap water under the advisement of Rich Hale. Works great forme thanks Rich!
