CurlyGeorge
A friend of mine gave me this tool, the other day, and was just sure that I could use it. I don't know for sure what it is. It looks similar to my hand held Whitney punch. But the bottom die moves up to about flush with the opening and the top die(?) screws up or down for some sort of adjustment. It measures about 4 1/2" tall and 12 1/2" long. The moveable handle is spring loaded, to return to the open position when you let off the pressure. It's a "Little Giant" brand. But what the heck is it??
CurlyGeorge
I should have added that neither the top or bottom die have a hole in them.

dkunkler
From the photo it looks like the top die has a little nub for spreading hollow rivets/gromets.
Hayden H
Rivet/eyelet/grommet/brad setter. Leather shop in town has one in his antique leather collection. His is a Little Giant brand as well.
CurlyGeorge
Lots of good ideas. Thomas, there is no patent number or any other markings on it. It says LITTLE GIANT on both sides and nothing else anywhere. here's a couple of close up pics of the dies. Top Die Bottom Die The bottom die has a very shallow divet in the center of it. peacock
IT's a tublar rivet set mostly copper coated steel. You drop a rivet head down in the bottom. put the leather in screw the set down snug , then push the handle down it punches it's own hole a splits the rivet in 5 or 6 places forms a clinch
CurlyGeorge
Phil, that one makes the most sense. After your post, I looked at the pics again and it makes perfect sense why the bottom die does not protrude above the edge of the bottom opening. Thank you. :D
