ThomasPowers
Well what are you interested in specifically? "Knives and Scabbards, Museum of London" is a really great book if you do medieval historical knives---not so good if you do Art Nouveau ornamental work or industrial smithing... welder19
A Blacksmithing Primer By Randy McDonald is a good book that teaches basic smithing techniques on a beginner and intermediate level, I still refer back to it now and again. welder19

ThomasPowers
Wow, $60!, My last major purchase book was "The Knight and the Blast Furnace" Williams; take a look at the price of that one on the used market! (It's *the* book on the metallurgy of renaissance armour!)

Mark Emig
For my $.02, I think that if you are looking for books on how to become a skilled smith, Mark Aspery's books are the best teaching books out there. I own a lot of "how to" books as I am primarily self taught and his are about the most thorough at building a set of skills to become proficient at forging.
