jmeineke
I need help... Being a newbie, I have no idea if this is a good deal or not. I found someone selling an anvil, post vise, crank blower and a coal forge. He is asking $300 for everything. He doesn't know how much the anvil weighs or it's make. The other problem is that It's a decent drive and I have no idea if this is a good deal just by looking at these pictures... Can someone give me some thoughts? http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/1.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/2.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/3.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/4.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/5.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/6.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/7.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/8.jpghttp://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/oswc/equipment/9.jpg Thanks! ironstein
Looks like a good deal to me. That champion 400 blower if it is in working order is a great blower. The forge looks cool too, although i didn't see a fire pot with it. Check the screw on the post vise and make sure it isn't too worn. I wish i would have run across a deal like that when i was getting started. Good luck.
BIGGUNDOCTOR
Call him up, and get your butt over there before someone else gets the stuff. Everything looks in good shape, and good size. You can make some money back selling the partial forge, and the wood spoke wheels (look to be Model T). I am going to guess 125#-150# on the anvil compared to the bicycle rim size. It is a Champion 400 blower. Looks like you can get one complete forge out of the two of them. I would be all over that if it was me. arftist
Slammer deal and a great start. Ask if he has a bucket of hammers and tongs laying around too.
David Einhorn
About $600 to over $1,000 worth of stuff (depending on condition and location) for $300 is a very good deal. I would jump on it, real *quick* if I was you. And yes, ask if he has a bucket of hammers and/or tongs, or other unidentified rusty stuff laying around. :D

urnesBeast
That is virtually the same set-up I have. Similar model forge (I dated it with an ad to 1901 ish), matching blower, and my first english pattern anvil, small leg vice. I paid: $200 ish for anvil $ 25 for forge and blower (great deal there!) $100 for the vice I got all mine from three sources. You can easily sell that extra forging table, might need some threaded black pipe to make new legs though (watch out! they are three different lengths). Because I had a lot of time while my smithy was being reconstructed, I sanded the rust off of everything, and painted it real nice. Made it look good and the paint actually stays on the forge (all except fire pot that is).
urnesBeast
Oh, you are going to see that the firepan fits really loosely into the forge table. I was told this is purposeful because of expansion while in use. I will just stick some kaowool or something in the hole because coal will fall through the hole. rasklking
Jump! It rare to run into a deal like that these days!
jmeineke
I just bought it all. Just have to figure out when I'm going to go pick it up. Asked about any rusty, unidentified tools lying around - no response yet. Keeping my fingers crossed!
