  1. I can't make it, I'm selling at the Greening Up The Mountains festival in Sylva.
  2. Oliver, if you are still looking for a post vise I have one available. johnburtner AT gmail.com
  3. I'm game. Here's an open invitation to anyone visiting the Smoky Mountains to stop by my shop.
  4. Teeny, did you read this tutorial? -> http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/27558 I think the key is clamping the stack in a vise while you weld up the 'cage'.
  5. The finished product: She loves it! Maggie did the finish work for me.
  6. Well Fe-Wood, be careful what you wish for. The only reason I had time to monkey around with Mokume is bacause I don't have any paying work at the moment.
  7. Here's my first attempt at the stacked-quarters Mokume: I followed this tutorial. Valentine's Day is coming up, and someone close to me will be getting a heart-shaped Mokume Gane pendant :D
  8. I believe you mean touchmark. Mine is my initials kind of smooshed together.
  9. I've had good luck with Watco Danish Oil. Wipe on a liberal coat, then wipe off all the excess you can with a separate, dry rag, wait 24 hours, then repeat.
  10. Thanks Bob. A young lady came by the shop last month and bought it as a Christmas present for her father. I hope he enjoys it.
  11. Very nice. I'll have to make sure my wife doesn't see this or I'll be on the hook for one for sure. :D
  12. I'll second divermike on the fatigue thing. Know your limits, learn to recognize the signs that you are getting tired, and STOP before you hurt yourself.
  13. Ken, the gas system will be down for repairs/modifications next week, so I'm not sure how much I'll be around. Give me a buzz ahead of time. You can find my phone number and my email on my website. Bentiron, we have a nice big compressor, no worries there.
  14. Steel poles supporting electrical wires? Pure Genius!
  15. Let me elaborate a bit. I'll be recycling the grit in a cabinet blaster, and it's going to be used 99% of the time for descaling small steel pieces. I doubt that organic media is the way to go in this situation, but hey, what do I know. Silica sand is out due to the above mentioned silicosis issue. Garnet is available at a pretty good price though.
  16. Hey guys and gals, what size (grit) and type abrasive do you use? I'll be using this for descaling more than anything.
  17. Rather than use 200 different local names for Osage Orange perhaps we could take Mr. Linnaeus' advice and use the internationally accepted binomial nomenclature. Maclura pomifera As for the Original Q? Ash. Or should I say Fraxinus?
  18. A former boss of mine had a good axiom: Bend over backwards for your customers, but don't bend over forwards for them! That said, honesty and good listening skills (as mentioned above) are very important. Never make a promise you can't keep.
  19. Tell us more about corn as fuel, please. Hook looks good.
  20. Hey back at ya. If you're ever out towards Sylva or Dillsboro give me a holler.
