  1. i think your idea would work best in a polebarn type of building but then you wouldn't be able to do your grid plan...hummmm
  2. live and learn...live and learn.....i bet your next one will be even better
  3. real awsome stuff. really like axes and love tha hammer
  4. i was thinking about a wire wrap as well. the file work is actually not file work it was hammered in with some little fullers i made, the material that was in between the spikes was pushed to the center for that little dimple , i just cleaned up a bit on the radius with the files
  5. try centaur forge, they sell stuff like that. but there must be some place closer to you
  6. this is a dagger i started making about a year ago, i never got around to working on it to much cuz i didnt have the right tools(knowledge) at the time but now that i'm better equiped i pulled it out of the "maybe later" pile and took to it. i did all the file work by hand and the sanding as well brought it to about 200 grit cuz well thats all i had kicking around. about a year ago i had poor hammer skills and didn't know to much about smithing blades, i tryed to get as much of the hammer marks as i could but you can still see the real bad ones near the guard end, never the less it turned out better that it would have when i started it lol. the pummel and the blade are all one peice and i dont really know where to go with the grip(or what to use rather) so i just left it for now(any suggestions?). i had left a 1/2" x 1/2" ball at the pummel end to put some detail on it and only got around to doing something with it now, looks kinda looks like a a chess peice(queen), i did it on the fly and wanted it to look like a crown, i know it's not the best but anything you guys have to say is always welcome. the specs: blade:13" grip:6" over all:19" here are some pics
  7. ouch!!...my jaw just hit the floor! well done, love the "scaberd" truely awsome.

    Post vises

that was an awsome find dude!! i paid 120$ for mine plus a huge shipping bill:( but it was worth it in the end since i traided it for one twice the size plus a huge a@# metal table, the one i had befor was a 4" now i have and 8" its a monster:). i guess it all depends on how much the ppl who are buying them really want them but i wouldn't go more than 150 for something like that and it would have to be in good condition.
  9. if you see sparks comming of the metal when you pul it out then thats way to hot (especially when maiking knives) your just burning it and you wont get any use out of it, if you hit it at this point it may just "split" , or if its to cold when you hit it it may just "tare". i've messed up a few things i was working on at first and the 2 main reasons was this.
  10. very well done , the cut is really clean , nice lines
  11. thank you all for your kind words, i just hope all of my future projects get as warm a reception as this. i really liked making this axe and it was an awsome experience.
  12. here is an idea that the municipality halifax is puting into effect, i found it awsome and would wish to see things like this evrywhere.
  13. out of all the knives i've seen from you this is one of my faves, i said it befor and i'll say it again , its the simplicity of your pieces that makes them so appealing good job
  14. i put the axe head on an old axe handle i had kicking around, the blade is 5 1/2" the hammer face is 1"x 1" eye is 1" and 1/4" thick over all 1' from tip to tip here some pics of the mounted head.
  15. i normalised the hole thing 4 times, got the axe blade to heat, quenched it in oil and drew out the temper with the leftover heat let it cool overnight, the next day i jamed a drift in the eye as a heat sink with an othere closer to the blade and heated the hammer face to heat and poured a stesady stream of watter over it till it was cooled enough then let the heat run the temper. both faces held up well and the body is nice and soft. i guess i was just so primed to get my post up i neglected to put that part in, sorry steve :D
  16. you guys have some awsome signs, i myself have no sign but i will someda lol
  17. hail friends, i just finished an axe Eric(element) and i had worked on a few times, just want to say thx for the help budy and hope to work with you again, now to the good stuff. here are some pics , note that there is a split in the mid section of the blade...i used a shaft that had a small depretion on the end and well there you have it but it only looks bad the axe is still in good working order and took a good edge. the back is a hooked hammer head with sharp edges for extra beats lol. i just brushed the scale off and finished the edge and the hammer face for the ht, wich went well, i used hydrolic oil for the blade and water for the hammer face , i left the pits and hammer marks for thet fresh from the forge look.:D
  18. that looks really good, im not an expert but i know what i like, the blade is fairly well ground from what i can tell, i like the simple shape you gave it, very fine job much better then i've managed to do as of yet.
  19. thats awsome bully, cant wait ti'll my little man is old enough to help out, he is 1 1/2 right now and come and visits the smithy when his mother and he are outside, i always get the same reply "wow!! cooo!!" (he cant say the "L" yet lol)
  20. if you can make a nice sized fire and heat up the surface you could also make swage block and the such
  21. that false edge makes all the diff. , looking good
  22. man if you seen what i was using you'd let it go lol
  23. first i must say , well done freind, and i just wanted to know how you fastened the plates on the lower portion
  24. what are the mesurments and how big is the door, if you dont mind me asking?
  25. like steve is saying, i get my coal out of the ground and it has its limitations but its alright if you just want to beat stuff...makes welding pretty much hit or miss, i would invest in smithing coal, as far as sweages and all that fancy stuff, i'd just stick to the simple stuff first and if you fall into it all the better. just one mans opinion.
