  1. man im gonna have to get myself a portable setup as well lol! i guess it'd be the best way to advertise and the cheapest. congrats on the sales! thats always fun. is there any farmers markets up your way, that would be the best,a weekly show or by-weekly just to show new projects and give ppl an idea of the thing we can do.
  2. really junker? why do you have to wait so long? you'd figure after it was baked on it would be safe? do you have to let it set into the steel? i'm not saying your not right, i'm just thinking if it work i'd probably do something like that for some of my stuff.
  3. really nice, i like the blunt end on the other side. well done.
  4. well its really well done , good work.
  5. im betting a sledge can make a good axe, you dont really have to forge weld a bit in, you can make it in one peice just make sure you temper properly. its better for a "field axe" not to be to hard so you can sharpen it on the field.i used a 5 1/2 lbs shaft cut of and forged it into a large axe a while back "http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/f79/battle-axe-12144/?highlight=battle". not a felling axe but you get the idea.
  6. im really loving this knife! the pattern is just awesome, the handle is very well done(love the copper) and the sheath just wraps it up in a nice package , is that snake skin? it compliments the the blade very nicely. for all a strangers word is worth, good job!
  7. i bet he has the nicest box in town! nice job
  8. i really like the first one it has really clean lines and a nice finish, the third is well done but i agree with the last post that the 2nd knife isn't as pleasing to the eye and then i start thinking , does it have a function? is there a reason for that shape? whats your take on that outsider, could be good for a skinner if one was to use it.
  9. if i make something for myself it doesn't tend to be very attractive but if i make it for someone else on the other hand i try a little harder and that only depends on the clients needs, not that i have any lol!:)
  10. although i dont know him, i send my condolences to family and friends. he will be missed.
  11. that is just too cool! whats the wood?
  12. i was thinking of a leaf blower but i dont have one lol, i think the high flow mattress blower or the car heater fan would work out seeing i can get them for free, i donno when im going to get to do it, with all the house renovation going on, but i will post more when i get it done. rravan: i was planning for less of swooping point as to have the tip in line with the center of the blade for more balance, i was debating on what to do with the tip as well and ended up with that. is your suggestion for it to be more like the end of a say...knife, i can kinda see what your saying but not really lol. if you can make a little pic on paint post it up, i'd like to see your idea, lol maybe i can use it on the next one :)
  13. really nice job!! i like it when you can see a few little pits on axes , makes them look nasty. really nice.
  14. that is an awesome story!! my son is not yet 2 (almost there) sometimes i bring him in the smithy when im just poking around. he always goes for the hammer and bangs on the anvil...its priceless:)
  15. well to be honest why would you want the blade to be balanced if your just gonna hang it on the wall? but really the "balance" should be in the "point of contact" that is the area of the blade that is meant to hit the target, it takes some practice to get right, you would probably want it to be about half way up the sword for something that big and long, you know, to better cleave off arms the such well i think anyway lol correct me if im wrong.
  16. yeah that sounds like a good idea, my dad is an auto mechanic im sure he has some old fan laying around + a couple of old batteries, come to think of it i need more coil spring too lol
  17. yes i plan on giving it a good normalizing cycle , would hate for it to get all wavy on me and i was thinking of making a trench forge and thats probably what im gonna end up doing until i can rig myself something better. only problem is i wont be able to do it here so im gonna have to go to my dads camp..no power lol and i dont have a hand blower anymore any suggestions as to what i could use as an air source. im sure i could get my hands on some car batteries for power but my electric blower is a monster and would't last to long im sure, plus im not sure if its safe for the motor so i dont really want to risk it until i have more info, again any suggestions?
  18. here is a saber like thing i'm working on right now i actually just got in from grinding and sanding got it to about 150 grit, its 22" long overall and the blade is about 16 inches and about 3/4" wide at 3/16 at the guard, im gonna have to build something to heat treat it in cuz my forge just isn't big enough to get the whole thing to heat at once but i'll worry about that later lol. please tell me what you think :D

  20. im gonna be making a fitting for a sword im working on im probably going to have to make a punch and a few other tools to get it finished but im gonna have to wait to mount it till i get the heat treat done, after that im gonna file and sand the blade try to get it at least to 250 grit this afternoon. i know you want pics but i have none yet but dont worry it'll be posted in the swords section soon enough!:)
  21. whew rough? perhaps stainless steel collars or brass or something like that, you could paint the rail then place the collars and if you used some low heat metal like brass or something like that it would't burn the paint away? but then there is the problem of tarnish so i guess it'd all come to the same huh? wow tough one, this a point that was brought up in brians "collars" post, perhaps collars isn't the best way to go here?
  22. does the client want a rust free finish ? or is it you that wants it rust free? i'm pretty sure in the days of past they where not as concerned with rust or where they? how long before the rust would become a problem? are they going to want to pay for the galvy treatment? sounds like it could be expensive but then again...what do i know lol
  23. thx guys for your comments ! copy away! it was a fun project . now on to the next one
