  1. Thanks Frosty, I was fairly sure that is what you meant, but I did not want to be presumptive. That's why I asked.
  2. Thanks Das! Frosty, That is an excellent idea . (It really slows down on the flat portions). What about laying it with the ^ upwards? It would seem like it might be more securely held that way. As far as stopping by and cleaning your stuff. Well, since we are practically neighbors... I'd be happy to pass along any advice and tips I've learned.
  3. Very cool mantis Aus, I like the split bolt mandibles (mouth bits). But I really must say that the dog is extremely lifelike!
  4. I picked up this Carolina horizontal bandsaw a little while back and commenced a bit of a refurbish job. I replaced the underpowered 3/4 HP motor with a new 2 HP one, new conduit, switches, and wiring. A new coolant pump, copper plumbing, braided stainless steel flex line, and improved fittings/needle valve. I made an oak handle for the stock holder carriage adjustment wheel. New guide bearings, blade & tires for the drive and idler wheels. I also fabricated a new base with locking casters. On top of a thorough cleaning. it works great and cuts true!
  5. Nice work Das. It looks very sturdy, especially so for something that breaks down so easily.
  6. Stunning! Beautiful knife and nicely photographed.
  7. Thanks JLP. I don’t have a lot of experience with welding yet, so “butter” is not the first word that springs to mind to describe my experience. But I am very proud of the result. I’ll keep practicing and striving for that level of skill & competence. Speaking of skill & competence, do you have any new videos in work? I really learn a lot from watching you! Thanks Aus! I do like it when the origins of the material is evident. Coco usually is off in the corner of the shop sleeping, then she magically appears to photobomb when I pick up the camera.
  8. I finished my first tomahawk today. I laminated a piece of the rasp in between the two halves to give the blade a little more mass and also to have the sharpened edge fall within the bit, instead of having the forge weld joint right there...
  9. Clever! (Just be sure to double check that the seat is still mounted before sitting!!)
  10. Sounds like an interesting (and challenging) project! I’ll be watching for updates and pics. Have fun!
  11. What is this "sunlight" you speak of? (says the guy in Seattle).
  12. Lol, yes multiple personalities keeps life interesting, eh? Very nice job on the handle and finish Hans. Is the double boiled linseed oil food safe? or is that nothing to worry about on a knife handle? I ask as I am trying to decide how to finish a handle (hardwood over a hidden "tang"?) I made for one of my wife's pans. Thanks, Shady HM.
  13. Nice job D.IVO. I like the handle and guard a lot. I also really like the blade shape/design too. It seems very well balanced and sturdy!
  14. Interesting styles Hans. They look very nice. How long is the blade on the Hirschfaenger?
  15. I think my daughter would say "Sick!". I like it!!
  16. Today I forged a hidden tang handle for my wife’s tortilla pan. The old Bakelite handle broke off and she’s been bummed. She loves that pan so much, she continues to use it without a handle. I used wood from a hardwood longboard skateboard for the handle and brass pins with a 24 hour high temp epoxy. I will shape it and try to mount it up tomorrow after the epoxy cures. Can I rub some unboiled linseed oil on the wooden handle, or would that be a bad idea? Anyways, If it works I’ll post some pics... if it fails, we will never speak of this again.
  17. I found most of the well meaning (and unsolicited) advice to be trite and infuriating. "Buck up", "There's always a light at the end of the tunnel" "Get over it" "Things will get better". "Snap out of it", etc... When I was in the depths of depression I could not see any light or imagine how anything could ever get better, and there was no "snapping out of it". When I heard such advice I felt like shaking the person and saying "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT I AM FEELING". It was very difficult to reconcile the words that seemed stupid and insensitive, with the intent of people that really cared... If this is true for you, try to remember the intent is often good, even if the words are clumsy. Whatever your goal is Michael, I hope you find it. I think that it is wonderful that you are seeking to heal past wounds. I believe that will help you towards your own healing.
  18. I like ghost chili & dark chocolate ice cream, I enjoy jumping out of perfectly good aircraft, as a civilian... (The 82nd Airborne sure had a way of sucking the fun out of it). I voted for.... oops, I can't say that here! Seriously, I have been dogged by the demons of depression in the past. While there is little anyone could say to take away the pain, knowing that people that cared and prayed for me was what kept me here. And strangely enough, my brother-in-law's great sense of humor saved me many times. Helped me lighten up when things were getting pretty dark. I hope you find a way to get on your happy path again soon.
  19. Very cool Aus! the texture of the all-thread really suits the cobras well.
