  1. Couldn't log on for a few days so I couldn't comment. Those dolphin jaw tongs came out real good. As well as your other tongs. You're so good at such a young age. Imagine how good you'll be in a few years!
  2. Rojo Pedro, I just saw the last work you posted. Very nice! Keep up the good work. Frazer, nice work your cranking out. Those barn door handles are really good looking. Made another opener to go with the same type as the last one. Sort of concept pieces. The one on the right is a beast and I let the very top of the ring get away from me a little during drifting. Qunenched it off and I managed to save it from getting exceptionally too thin. Nothing special, but I have a few more designs that I want to work out. Maybe I'll get a few good ones to sell
  3. I believe I heard a former contestant on FIF say that they are given choice of horn orientation, but didn't mention height. I also wonder if they use the same anvils or switch them out. Like say, one gets damaged do they replace just the one or all of them? Would be interesting to know
  4. DSW, your way of working at the anvil is buttery smooth and very clean results. I enjoyed the video and real good wrench/ opener. JHCC, good work with air curtain. It looks to work very well. GFH, the curves on your hook are graceful. Nice work. I just made a couple of those myself. tom_ET, looks like your having fun. Keep it up!
  5. GFH, nice score. My leg vise is one of the most valuable tools in my shop. I don't know how I would get along without one
  6. I just went and watched Daniel Moss make some. Interesting build. Thanks for introducing me to something I didn't know existed
  7. Post your results as quickly as you can please! That's going to be impressive even if you didn't etch them. I gotta see if I can find some of these in action
  8. Well, that is just too cool. I've never seen anything like them. I can't wait to see your final results
  9. Keeping up the prayers for you also Randy
  10. Hmm... y'all got me scratching my head. What are Dolphin jaw tongs? I hope I haven't set myself for a joke but I am truly in the dark
  11. Sounds like you may have chickarona virus also. Chickens are an addiction too. Good having you back
  12. Thank you Buzzkill. You made my day with such kind words Chris, can you get a buddy over to strike for you?
  13. Sounds like a productive day Chris. You working on the dog's head hammer?
  14. Billy, congratulations on your impending new arrival! natkova, good deal on making some chisels. Jennifer, you ain't afraid to get dirty and get bumpy and bruised. We are kindred spirits. Omnislug, your screen name is great haha. Have fun! This is my contribution today. Took me awhile to work out the design. But i made some mid-work design changes (accidentally ) and it came out better than what I had thought up
  15. Thank you Chris. Trying to get back in rhythm of things. blacksmith- 450, nice looking tongs. What are they made from?
  16. Nice I made another one also. Warm up exercise. And a bottle opener as a thank you for a man that Tommie worked for last week. He runs a machine shop and was nice enough to let him bring me home a big bunch of scrap. Made from a half horseshoe that was going to be a spoon. I let the scale get away from me a bit Started work on a couple of other things, but nothing noteworthy.
  17. natkova, S hooks come in handy. I hung up my hummingbird feeder with one I made yesterday. Adds a little class to their dining experience
  18. Thank you Jennifer. They are pretty simple. The hardest thing was squaring nearly 3' lengths of 1/2" round. That just takes me a minute. I guess they could be a marketable item. Even easier if I get hold of some square stock. Even for a cold bent store bought one in simple form, they are expensive.
  19. That's the first thing I get asked is "Do you make knives?" That's after they get a shock that I'm a female blacksmith of course. I certainly don't fit into the stereotypical blacksmith image. Im 5'2 1/2" if I'm lucky and no beard or big muscles I do have a few tattoos though. This makes me think of "A Knights Tale". I love that movie, but Kate the blacksmith 'forging' a cold horseshoe and going, tap, tap tap on it is utterly ridiculous.
  20. Still praying for you also Thomas. I got my other shepherds hook made. This one is smaller as it's for my grandchildren's gravesite. Since its shorter, I haven't decided if I'll bend and forge weld the ground hook or weld on another piece to keep it the same length. I don't really want to draw it and thin the cross section anymore than it is. I don't think it would be stable enough to stay in the ground. Any suggestions are welcome. The bigger one on the right got painted with Rustoleom Hammered paint and primer. I think I like it. The S hook is a 6" spike nail. I picked up a handful while I was at Home Depot. 18 cents (US) apiece. Thought they'd make good warm up projects. Thanks for looking and y'all have a good day
  21. That is gorgeous. Beautiful craftsmanship
  22. Frosty, you've really given me a confidence booster. Thanks for that. I needed it Valadon, now that you have narrowed your choice, I'd suggest researching prices pretty heavily also if you haven't already. Actual prices on them run about the same nearly everywhere it seems, but the shipping can vary widely. What swayed your decision? Price, weight, material? Other? The reason I'm asking is it may help someone else who's hunting around for a new anvil. My decision was based on it was the best and biggest cast steel anvil I could afford.
  23. Looks good Billy. Much better than mine looks right now
