  1. I'd probably display it in my smithy. Great piece
  2. That's very cool. I bet if it could talk, it would have a great story of it's history to tell. Do you have any clue about who made it?
  3. Thanks for the information. I had no idea. I never heard of the Goliath Birdeater until I saw it on Kings of Pain. Very interesting
  4. Are these a special kind of tarantula?! Man, I need to start catching them when I see them. That is fascinating
  5. He's good. Fat and happy as usual. In fact, he's got his face in his food bowl as we speak In case anyone is wondering, Sam is a Guinea pig... not my my husband
  6. I've had trouble with potted ones. That's why I decided to make a garden outside. When I can keep the goats away from them, they are pretty when they bloom
  7. I have a cactus garden right by my front porch. I had some growing there already when we moved here and I've planted some different varieties. They've been there so long they are getting huge. But it's a pretty common sight all over. Not anything like what I've seen in NM and Arizona though. And west Texas
  8. You could get all you want here. It's everywhere.
  9. Hey to you, Clint! Plano is a big place. I'm about 70 miles north of you, right close to the Oklahoma border. Population under 900 and that's still not enough elbow room for me. Welcome to the forum and glad to have another Texan in the gang. I don't know personally, but I've heard good things about those e bay anvils. I hate to call them that, but I'm not sure how you pronounce the name on them. Let us know how you like it and be sure to post lots of pictures of your work!
  10. Thanks Frosty. I was actually just sketching out what you just described in how to shape this thing. I've been using one of my dogs as a model. His head is similar to how a wolf looks. Streamlined I think would be the word I'm looking for. What if I were to curve the neck down some like horse heads are usually done? I know what you're saying about the "swimming" look it has. Got to remedy that. I guess he could be a dog fish. I thought about making the loop end to look like a tail. But I don't want it to look hokey either. We'll see what #3 turns out like and y'all can critique it. Thanks for your input! We didn't get the chickens until this morning. Those little naked necks are cute right now. They have a fluff on the top of their heads, and bald as a bird ( pun intended) around their necks. They sure stand out from the other chicks! I don't know about eggs or meat with these guys. I never even heard of them until a few months ago. Our first ones but I'm looking forward to watching them grow. When it gets a bit warmer, I'll get pictures of them. He hasn't been able to start on the forge yet between work and the chicken tractors. It may be a minute till he gets time, but it'll happen. Thanks for your help with that also.
  11. I like it. I use small hammers a lot for details and finishing. I even use a 5oz. ball peen. Good job. Very cool
  12. CtG, that's a big ole hammer! Hope much does it weigh? And I was considering the neck area also. I want it to look big and fluffy like a wolf with a winter coat. But you're right, it needs some definition. Thanks for extra eyes and input. I do appreciate it very much.
  13. I don't have anything to add to the current conversation. But I wasn't expecting to get out to the shop tonight, so surprise! Wolf #2. I think it needs maybe a little step between the bridge of the nose and forehead. I don't know. But I'll keep tweaking it till I get it to a good base form to start from. What do y'all think?
  14. Chris, I'm happy you're getting closer dude! You'll be banging out knives left and right before you know it
  15. I missed this post somehow yesterday but I caught the video anyway. Thanks for taking the time of making and sharing it. I'm sure there are many others like me that are getting a great deal of skill building knowledge from your teaching.
  16. There you go and I'm sure they do appreciate them. Nice of you to spread the happiness around This site is massive. I've been here for about 2 1/2 years and and read a LOT and I still find new things all the time
  17. Thanks for sharing these. It seems like more people are posting the wonderful work they do and I'm tickled about that. Good work and great collection you have there.
  18. Geez, I didn't catch this earlier. Sorry if anyone saw anything bad. Maybe Transylvanian naked neck ' chickens' in the search terms would help. I was just telling Tommie about that and he said he found that out also when he researched them
  19. I've had ducks off and on and I like them. But chickens are hard to beat. I had no shop time today either. I may not for the next several days. What a bummer
  20. The naked necks are not blessed with good looks for sure! Researching them, as far as anyone knows, they were the original meat bird and bred for flavor... Not sure how that works We are only getting a few to start and see about them. Shabumi wow...a four yolker. I've never seen that happen. I've found a lot of double yolks, but we sell most of the eggs so I have no idea how common it is. I can't eat eggs. Allergic to them except for cooked in things. I'm also lactose intolerant... and I live on a farm. Talk about irony. I can handle small amounts, I just have to watch it. Frosty, thanks for the references. I'm sketching out different designs and I'll add that to the list. I just got to thinking, you see horse heads done a lot, so why not other animals also? I figure I could make about any animal I wanted to.
  21. Buff Orpingtons currently and adding more. Getting some brown sexlinks and some production reds for my FIL. Oh, and a few transylvanian naked necks. I love my chickens also. Oh and we will get cornish crosses soon as well Billy, congrats on the job offer. Hope you get it!
  22. Goods, that's a great looking hammer. It does look like it wants to swing! GFH, beautiful woodwork. Jennifer, thanks for more tips on filling. I've learned more about filing the last couple of months or so than I ever knew before. It's an art in itself and I never really thought of it that way. Marcus, I like you leaf. The stem portion looks nice and smooth. Sometimes I like them to look viney, but I get so carried away with planishing on nearly all my work to remove all the facets I can that most are smooth as butter Good job
  23. I think truper was the name on a couple of hammer handles I bought at a farm supply store. Around 6 or 7 dollars for the length I bought. Seem to be good, solid handles.
