  1. Thanks Mark, much appreciated. Pretty cool to know that its still pounding away almost 100 years after it was made…
  2. Thanks for the welcome into the group. To answer the questions about the shop loft, that is where most of the important decisions will be made, such as which football game to watch after the MN Vikings (SKOL!) games are over and and which bourbon vintage is superior to another. I plan to build it out as a cave for men to hide from unsuspecting wives and children. regarding the leather wrap on some of my axe handles, arkie said it best, some prefer it to help with over strike which can happen especially with a long beard, others just think it looks cool. Either way works for me. I’m off to the elk woods of Colorado for a bit, so y’all stay safe and don’t hammer your fingers and I’ll touch base once I return. Cheers
  3. Oh man, my apologies, I have been known to make a splash upon entry and it’s totally my fault, no reasonable excuses. My Dad taught me a line I’ve used on several occasions… I am just as smart as all those other guys, I just can’t think of it.
  4. Well now that you mention it I don’t really have any good shop picture’s, at least not my current shop. I do have some of the new shop (50’x120’) under construction (building it myself) at this moment. I’ll get some current shop pics to add later…
  5. Hey y’all, I just signed me up for this forum yesterday and wanted to send a quick note about myself. I am 1/2 owner of Overlook Forge (www.overlookforge.com) in Newberg Oregon, our shop primarily makes axes (me) and my business partner primarily makes knives. We have been in business (part-time) for approximately 5 years and have found our life’s passion. I am super happy to find this community, although I don’t typically spend a lot of time on the web as I prefer to spend my time actually doing / making things in real life, I can see the value of having a community of like minded people to connect and grow with. Thanks for having me! A couple of pictures of my work.
  6. Awesome thanks, here’s a couple pics of the progress getting this sweet Chambersburg lady ready for the dance. Also I’m not sure if there is a place to add my location in my profile, I’ve looked just not seeing it, but I’m located in the Pacific NW, Oregon, Newberg to be exact and my Blacksmithing passion primarily concerns making axes. Specifically the bearded type commonly used to pillage and plunder, as well as split kindling and other household / camp chores
  7. Hello I’m new to the site and was looking for any info on a couple of power hammers I recently acquired. Specifically I was hoping to know the manufacturer dates if possible? Nazel 4B serial # 1162 Chambersburg 2CH serial # 2CH-3634 Interesting part about the Chambersburg is I had it sand blasted in preparation for repaint today and found what appeared to be the original assembly line yellow marker paint (under 4 layers of other paint) indicating #3635 in at least two places on the frame, but it’s stamped #3634. Both hammers are operational and will be put into service as soon as I can get a foundation put together for the Nazel. anyways any additional info in these would be most appreciated. Best, Tony
