  1. Mike, did I hear this last weekend that you are having an exabition in Nashville, Tn. soon? How 'bout posting some information here about where, when and what? Thank you.
  2. Come to Quad State 4th weekend in September. Troy, Ohio. Many other Canadians will be there, one is even demonstrating.
  3. I forged this set of tongs several years ago. I call them "Don't work so hard". They would probably fit right in with that hammer.
  4. Great pictures. We usually got right on down to the conference area and don't see all that great stuff.!
  5. When you blow your nose save the item (kleenex, hankerchef, paper towel what ever), then use it to start the fire in the morning.
  6. Slow down, attend the meetings, attend conferences, come to Quad State, come by my horse trailer/canopy visit with me and others, learn a lot before buying what you think is what you need. Again my best advise is slow down... I started blacksmithing about 13 years ago and thought that I had to buy all those tool, then realized that I had spent a bunch of money on tools that I did not need. The great thing about this blacksmithing community is that we want to help others learn and get started. Come to Quad State the 4th weekend in September and plan to learn a lot and have a good time,,, as well as find good deals on those tools that you think that you need.
  7. Go to conferences, Alabama Forge Council is coming up the first weekend after Labor Day, Quad State it the 4th weekend in September, check out www.ABANA.org click on Affiliates, click on Affiliate list for a local group, look into www.folkschool.org. Call me and we can talk about it some and I will see if I can help.
  8. lpayne, When you come by my canopy I give you a little horn.
  9. Those extra long spikes are they the ones with a head on each end? If so I would like to see about getting one. Those will draw out long enough to make a cane and I am getting old enough to need the cane. You being in Eastern Kentucky maybe we are close enough to get together for a visit.
  10. Thomas, I was going to say something but you covered it all and did a good job too. Come by my canopy (with the Knife Dogs banner)to visit a while. I was raised in Lovington but just had to come to where there is green grass and trees. I just could not wait to get away from that little bitty town out in the middle of the grass plains and oil patch. Moved to Dallas and then Atlanta.....Now I live in a little bitty town in the middle of an oil patch,,,,but I do have trees and green grass.
  11. lpayne, is your avatar "Popcorn" Sutton? We hope to see you at the September 7 thru 9 th conference. Come by my canopy for a visit.
  12. In years past $50.00 registration $25.00 per night for camping with elec $10 or 15 per night for tent only area.
  13. In Ky for mild steel go to Sandusky in Columbia, Ky. Their mild steel rods, bars, mostly cold rolled is $.25 to .30. Tubeing is generally $.30. Lots of nuts, bolts, etc.
  14. USING A FOOT SWITCH WITH A KB DRIVE Get a momentary on/off foot switch. Harbor Freight has one. http://www.harborfreight.com/momentary-power-foot-switch-96619.html You plug this into the wall and your VFD into this switch. If you step on the switch the motor will run, step off and the motor stops. If you plug the VFD straight into the wall the motor will run. Your start/stop switch has been disconnected. To set up a foot switch on the KB drives go to page 14 of your manual section 5.5. If you are installing a fwd/rev switch you have to remove a jumper that is in the upper left corner of the VFD and plug wires from the new fwd/rev switch into those contacts. Then disable the start/standby/run switch on the drive to have the foot switch operate properly, disconnect the run/com wires, just below where you hooked up the fwd/rev switch, and install the jumper you removed for the fwd/rev switch on these two contacts. Tape off the two wires you disconnected and tape or use zip ties to secure them back to the other wires and to keep them out of the way. When you step off of the foot switch you have disconnected power to the VFD (it is not in Stand By Mode). If you then switch direction while the power is off the motor will start up in the same direction that it was previously running for two or three revolutions, then will reverse. It will take a little bit of playing with this set up to get accustomed to it and you should be able to work just fine with it. If you have questions contact me.
  15. I look forward to visiting with you. Come by my "Knife Dogs Hospitality Tent" I will have a large horse trailer with living quarters and a large canopy with a Knife Dogs banner on one of the tables. I will be ready to take all of that money that you have been advised to bring. I live at the south end a Big South Fork just out of KY so about as far away as we can get with only all of KY between us.
  16. Old time blacksmiths (before the days of in door restrooms and in towns where they couldn't just go out back) claimed to have a brine quench for their slack tub,,,,and you did not wash your hands in the slack tub.
  17. Important is also how do you grip the hammer. See Hofi grip threads.
  18. No look at www.WayneCoeArtistBlacksmith.com under forge supplies. $10.00 per pint.
