  1. Another option for a slightly different effect (also good if you can't find a brass brush) is to use a piece of solid brass. A brush will do almost the entire surface, while a solid piece will only give color to the highest points. It's a more subtle effect, but it really helps bring out the texture of a hammered piece. For example, here's a leaf that I did with brassed highlights: Just as with the brush, the solid piece should be like Baby Bear's porridge: not to hot, not too cold; just right.
  2. Impressive! Casting the pritchel would presumably give a rougher interior surface to the hole, which in turn might give a bit more tooth to keep a hold-down in place.
  3. Go with higher rather than shorter. You don’t want it suddenly too low if you hit a growth spurt.
  4. Thanks for the info. Does that also apply to FAIR anchors and Pandrol clips?
  5. Only if it were that size of Mousehole.
  6. Got some cutting and welding done on a new water-cooled tuyere. (And burned out the gears on my HF angle grinder with just a month left on the extended warranty.)
  7. Hello, Behemoth Hobbit, and welcome to IFI! If you haven't yet, please READ THIS FIRST!!! Please read the Burners 101 thread and the thread on making the Frosty-T burner. Both can be found in the Gas Forges section, and will answer almost every question you can think of. If there's still anything you don't understand, folks here will be more than happy to help you, especially if we know that you've already done your homework. Enjoy!
  8. Amazon has been good to me the last couple of days.
  9. Converted my first pair of twist tongs (which were never great for their intended purpose) into a pair of tempering tongs by welding 3” long pieces of 1-1/4” round onto the jaws and lengthening the reins with some 3/8” round. Also thinned down the chunky bits on the handle of my rounding hammer (as previously discussed) to reduce the risk of breaking it again. (As before, the edge of the handle towards the round face is more rounded than the edge towards the flat, making it easier to tell by feel which face I’m hitting with, rather than having to look.)

  16. Doesn't sound all that savory anyway.
  17. Should we check your basil body temperature?
  18. Looks nice. FYI, there’s a food safety question of having a rough surface that could hold onto food particles and serve as nucleation sites for bacterial growth. Washing at a high temperature can help, but that could compromise the pitch in the handle.
  19. ...for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.
  20. And as any New Yorker can tell you,
  21. If you and your friends bit me, I'd get stubborn about the price too!
