  1. Looks good Irondragon. Making some more and some long grass would make a nice scene welded to a steel plate. "Might" make an attempt at something tonight. It is in my plans but God only knows how my evenings or plans will turn out lol.
  2. Saw a claw hammer on the side of the on ramp of the highway coming in to work today. Had to stop to grab it. It was a safe area to do so. I have passed on a lot of scrap laying along the highway because of risk vs. reward.
  3. Nice work everyone. Shain, that turned out nice. Interesting way to make a poker end too.
  4. It will be a true time saver having a place for many tools that don't have a permanent spot. Time hunting tools is lost efficiency and that = money. So yeah, it is a business expense that will up production, space and sanity.
  5. Lol, I tried to get it delivered while liz was in ny with the kids visiting family but I hadn't made room to get it in yet so I spent that time cleaning up the shop. It isn't That big a deal. I'd just rather not have to answer questions. The bills are paid and there is food in the fridge. Kids have cloths and toys. Lol
  6. If that isn't a proud moment and compliment to your work, I don't know what is. Congrats, it looks great.
  7. I'm still wondering how I'm going to sneakily take delivery of a 79" toolbox up to my shop.
  8. Nice work Billy. Yes, if it crumbled under the hammer it was too hot. Been there done that lol.
  9. Went great. We forged a few things to generate interest and I think it was a successful day. PAABA was well represented and recieved with leaders John Steel and Chris Holt sharing info while we forged. The items I made I donated for them to auction off at the next meeting. A skull that will be a pendant, one that is a bottle opener and a horseshoe horse head heart. I shared my forge forge with another member Austin. I hadn't taken pictures of what I had made but realized I did looking at a few pictures I did take of the paaba table setup. You probably know how it goes, get caught up in the moment and forget to take pictures. It was a good time. Gewoon, nice even twists!
  10. Loaded up to do a demo for the local iron workers program in Pittsburgh. Of course I loaded too much stuff. All to teach and share the craft to anyone interested. Also, I have No idea what i am getting into or what they reAlly expect. All I know is i have some project ideas. Might be fun, might be full on social anxiety. Or could get a flat tire on the trailer. Who knows. Pics to come whatever happens.
  11. Hi Isaac, Your anvil looks to be in good shape. Hard to tell if it is one with a wrought iron body with a steel face plate or one welded at the waist with a solid steel upper half. Looks more to me to have the wrought body and steel face plate. I would put more value on one with the solid steel upper welded at the waist. Yours looks in good shape. Irondragons suggestion of the numbers on the front foot is a good one. Might narrow down the year and weight. As for my area that would fetch around 3-4 maybe 5$lb. easy. Not sure in your area.
  12. Thanks Jennifer. Yes, I used a rounded chisel to hammer it back a bit. They will improve as I make more. Nice work and improv on the the tool. Hope you get back to 100% soon.
  13. Good point Scott. Could try with a different shaped chisel on each side to save the center section.
  14. Thanks. Have a few more nights to practice before I demonstrate saturday morning. Next one I will try to make into a bottle opener. Been a lot going on so by the time I get a chance to forge at night I'm already tired and ready for bed.
  15. Made a skull out of 3/4" steel this time. Cut it off tho one will end up a bottle opener.
  16. Straight road, what is that? lol The traffic in and right around pittsburgh and major to towns gives me anxiety. I'm basically right off Rt. 70 and travel it 20 minutes pretty much every day to get to and from work. 70 can either be a nice easy ride or a pain, but rarely as bad as some major roads in pittsburgh.
  17. Welcome aboard Dave, from about 45minutes south of Pittsburgh PA. ~Aric
  18. I'm with Frosty on this one. The galvy on the blower pipe won't get hot enough to burn the zinc. I just looked at their site to see what kind of pipe they use and it looks just like what I use on my travel demo forge for the blower but mine is aluminum. Don't know if you could strip that kind of piping but then it won't even be an issue.
  19. Thanks Shain. I agree. Well, made another skull tonight. Lightning, patience and or skill didn't strike in the same place twice. Maybe i am a few too deep and out of energy and rushed it. Cracked it at the mouth where I wanted to drill the hole and didn't get the eye sockets or teeth how I wanted. Second is done tho. Now off to do other un-fun things. Still wound up with a finished product.
  20. That Is impressive! Also just setting up at the fair and letting smiths demo And sell is something I'd like to talk to PAABA about. Will have an audience with the higher ups this weekend.
  21. Thanks Rojo. Now that I got one done and will make more soon it is just another tool in the toolbox and I hope to get better expressions. Also want to get the keychain ring to look like it is held in the jaw on the next.
  22. Exactly. Last night I made my first forged skull. I have no idea why I hadn't before but I was asked to do a forging demo by PAABA for a pittsburgh local iron workers group to maybe inspire some interest. I am all about drawing interest even tho I'm not the most social. I try when it comes to blacksmithing. Anyway they mentioned possibly forging a skull among other things so I need to try and practice before I jump into it. The other ideas I am more familiar with. Here is my first attempt. Will make it a key chain. First idea was a bottle opener but that wasn't going well because of fatigue. Yeah full time job, kids and other duties leads to less alert time in the forge. So I cut it and drilled it to accept a key ring. It is ok. A few more and I might be able to make them better. Definately props to a few tutorials on yt. Nice Tommy, sounds like a great experience. I like the booth.
