  4. Jason just corner Mike at the next guild meeting...like he said. He will take you through the pros and cons of all of them. I remember from the last meeting the concern on the horn shape. I know you want to have the horn like what is on Mike's 1245 pound one on the 330. Maybe Dick can ring in on it here. He is an IFI member: "blksmth" One day I will own a Refflinghaus...after seeing Mike's two, and talking with Dick about them. I am sold on that anvil brand 100%. Peyton

  6. Barn yesteryearforge is my father in law and boss....he makes this stuff, and has a few at the shop. You can contact him and see what he can do for you. email me your info and I will get with him and see what we can do. He is at the BAM conference right now and will not be back until the 10th of May... Peyton rpanderson@kinex.net
  7. Last August we had Dick Nietfeld come demo for us and he showed us his eye bender. Here it is: How it works is he drilled a hole that is the diameter of the pin + 2 times the material...so if the pin is 1/2 inch, and the material is 1/4 inch then the hole needs to be 1 inch. He cut a slot in the block for the material to go into...the slot is sawed out a little ver sized to the material being used. How it works is he places the block on the floor heats up the bar and hammers it into the slot. The material bends around the hole and is done in one heat. when done the block slides off the newly formed eye. Pretty neat and simple idea. Hope that makes sense. I will see if I have any photos of him doing it. You can also contact him at Shady Grove Blacksmith Shop Just tell him Peyton sent you over there about his hinge eye bender...he can help you with the idea also. :-) Peyton
  8. Alfred Haberman has passed away today. April 28th. He was 77 years old... He is survived by his wife Maria, and his daughter Christine. This is a very sad day for all of the blacksmithing world for the loss of a Great visionary of design, technique, and enthusiasm that has been felt by thousands all over the world. Please ring your anvil the next time you are in the shop. This has been reported on the ABANA website from Peter Elga
  9. chain break? well....that's my guess. Where is Jr.?....he will know. Peyton
  10. Well I just wanted to share a few things with everyone so you know what is going on and what is being planned. 1. The April Meeting went GREAT! Clay did some really cool things with his flowers and blossoms...if you couldn't make it you missed a great DEMO! 2. Camstreams is the company that hosts the webcasts for FREE and has doubled our bandwidth for the next upcoming meetings. AWESOME! This means more people out there can watch and enjoy! Thanks to Camstreams for making this opportunity more available to everyone interested. 3. We have been fortunate enough to have 40+ people at our meetings so far this year. We are in the planning stages of moving the meeting site to Yesteryear School of Blacksmithing in Crewe Virginia when all the preparations have been made. This will NOT happen until late summer so do not worry! This new site will allow the guild to do more with our meetings and have more room for people to be comfortable and enjoy the day! 4. The next meeting will be on May 17th with ELMER ROUSH AND HIS WIFE LYNDA METCALFE doing a joint demonstration. This is a really unique thing that they have never done before so it is going to be one for the record books. 5. Thanks so much to everyone who has been participating in the Iron in the Hat every month. Your participation is really helping! PLEASE KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING! 6. We got our 20 members for ABANA! Which means on July 19th there will be a special ABANA APPRECIATION event held with DOUG MERKEL doing a demonstration celebrating the life and memory of the lateDoug Hendrickson. More details to come soon... Did I miss anything??? Oh yeah...there is a lot this guild owes to Mike and Linda Tanner for their dedication and open arms in allowing us to hold the meetings at their shop, AND to feed us every time. Their hospitality has a lot to do with the great time had by all every month. My hat is off to them for their dedication and enthusiasm not only for the guild but for blacksmithing in general. Thank You! Peyton
  11. yesteryearforge - Live Webcam with Free Chat Have Fun
  12. Looks like we are going to be going on for another month with a limited amount of space to watch the webcast. I have put in a request with the host company for more bandwidth and am awaiting a response. They are in England and very busy I am sure... I will post the HOT link to the webcast "room" around 8-9am or so right here. We are going to ramp up the resolution and hope it comes through better so those with high speed will be able to view it. Those with dial up I am not too sure if it will load...there will also be a chat room there too so sign in with your handle and y'all can talk about what is going on. Adam will be heading it up again for us...I pop on from time to time to say hi from the main computer too...so... Hope to "see" you guys Saturday! Peyton
  13. LOL. Nice Jr. That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. HaHa! Peyton
  14. Thought I would share this with everyone here too... We are also still on schedule to run our monthly webcam of the meeting as well. I will post a hot link to this thread on Saturday Morning for you all to join us at your computer if you can not make the trip...but I certainly hope you can make it. Looks to be a beautiful day! Clay will be demonstrating Flowers, Blossoms, and Leaves to go along with our trade item theme. COOL!!!!!!!!! Peyton
  15. Clay is leaving today to come on up for the weekend. He has decided to dedicate his demo to forging flower blossoms to align it with our trade item: "something in bloom". COOL! Peyton
  16. You know I have seen a cool idea of a guy using bolts with different sized holes drilled into them that slip into his pritchel to change the size around to what he needs... Not really sure the details on his process but it seemed to work pretty good. Peyton
  17. nevermind! .....looking back I over looked the whole point of the question and specifics. it helps to really read sometimes! HA!! Peyton
  18. Rob great to see you join up with us! If you ever want to make a trip to Virginia our doors are always open and we would love to see ya! Blacksmith Guild of Viriginia - Home Peyton
  19. I believe Kolswa, paragon, and maybe peddinghaus are all like this too...not sure though but I think I remember hearing/reading that somewhere. Peyton
  20. Dave you beat me to it! Randy makes some pretty blades with that stuff...he is someone who would be good to talk to about it. I see him in here from time to time... hmm... :-) Peyton
  21. You may want to ask a guy by the name of Ralph Sproul...He is over at forgemagic a lot and he has forged a lot of pipe and has a lot of fixtures he uses under his power hammers to do the job. Peyton
  22. Censorship?.....being banned?..... Let's all keep in mind we are merely guests in another man's house. We are here because Glenn has welcomed us to be here. Iforgeiron has a code of ethics to be followed by everyone. It is posted, and should be followed. "The Blacksmith Forum is a family site. The standards are set high. You are expected to conduct yourselves as gentlemen and ladies. Your posts are to be civil, polite, and respectful of others and their opinions. There are to be no "bad words", no personal attacks, and it should be able to be read from the front of the church on Sunday with no one being embarrassed. The site is a way to exchange information. You may question or comment as you wish within these guide lines. Additional guide lines may be added as needed, and additions made to the rules of registration, and any disclaimers as needed. I charge each of you with assisting me in keeping the site a family site, a clean site, and operating within the guidelines set forth. I do not expect any problems, but if they were to occur, please contact me directly with your concerns. If you were invited into someone's home, or someone's business, would you be expected to conduct yourselves as gentlemen and ladies, to be civil, polite, and respectful of others and their opinions, and to not attack anyone personally? This is YOUR home, and YOUR place for learning. If you answered yes to the question above, then it is how you expect others to conduct themselves already. It is only a rule if the expectations must be addressed and or enforced." Everyone is invited to join us. Please make suggestions as how we can improved the site and make it better. Participate and make it YOUR home, YOUR place for learning. This talk and hint of censorship has been around here before when all we need to remember is what guidelines Glenn and the IFI crew has laid out for us here on the forum. If you don't like it don't post...we all make choices and by posting we all choose to live by the standards in place. Censorship only comes when those try to quiet you without you knowing the rules first... It is not our place to question why someone has been banned. It is our place to hold ourselves and those around us to higher standard to keep others from the same fate. So get over it...move on...get back to why we come to this site! BLACKSMITHING! Thanks for the forum Glenn. Thanks for the high standards of conduct. And Thanks for sticking to it! It makes this site better for all! Keep up the good work!!!!!! Just my $.02 Peyton
