  1. i had a burner, till the grommet killed it....news paper works fine..3 bits crumpled, light, slow air, pour charcoal on top...and your away...i do this once or twice a day.
  2. guess ill have to rig a sunday meet
  3. I do the controlled collapse thing, knock in the centre of the 4 flats to form gentle valleys, (on inch square i do about 6-8mm) then heat and twist. (carefully). same for bending. I have seen the the inserted bar thing work, and tried it once, i welded a piece of square bar on the end for a non collapsing grip, and cut it of when finnished. Tube is a very swedgable medium, with very pretty results. just careful on the cooling, ...that you dont have it aimed your way for a jet of steam.
  4. As Ratel10mm says, they are easy to make, and the parts for a simple and effective burner are available and cheap. i use the pattern, for a forge, my old man casts ally with his and easy to explain to build, and wont cost you hundreds to make. send me an email
  5. and while hes making hammers,,,make one for the end of one of these air rams...
  6. i have a shelf with jars full of the magic smoke from several types of motors, from when i started mucking around with triacs and speed controller circuits. i might have the right model for you, but the technology may not yet be up to date for re-inserting the smoke.
  7. do a seach on the hossfeld type bender, there are plans for one on the net.. ill try to find them ahh found it...i built one then make your tube dies......or anything else die for that matter http://www.chopperhandbook.com/neatstuff/downloads.htm go to the benders bit
  8. sorry DennisG i couldnt resist it...as in so thin i cant see them either.......its never the same when you have to explain it......lol
  9. i forge in the backyard, and it is comfy. grass turns into dirt then you move onto new grass or stay. big shady trees.... a big stump under the anvil helps steel move, and you dont mark everything you drop. the one drawback is you cant bolt tools down though a large disc of 30mm plate helps with benders or vises. at the little shed its all concrete and roof. id rather be forging under a big shady tree. unless of course its raining.
  10. nice clean work, love the through hooks with tails.
  11. i saw a guy lose a fair bit of his finger from a ring, one yuppie get the bottom of his ear lobe ripped open out bush, and one almost beheaded using the wrong kind of necklace. i dont wear jewelry of any kind, (past job) in a machine shop or the workplace the like, where the jewelry could get caught and risk your self and indirectly others, i would suggest one does not wear any.
  12. tried ducks, till the missus put them in a pen and let the wrong dog out over night, they nearly made it to two months old. now ill get another batch and try again. the black dog is sort of used to them and cares for them, the white dog just enjoyed them..
  13. very regular application of aloe after 10 mins in the quench tank, has left an un marked hand, with no restricted use from skin tightening, where a blistering chared and crackled burn was. my medicine cabinet has, aloe, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, natural unpro. honey. and a few other bits for coughs etc.(lemon grass etc) aloe for any non life threatening burns is good sense.
  14. I smoke too much. and if you live and work in a major city, you have the same chance of ending up as if you smoked 2-3 packs a day. Forge, while mine is out side, i do agree that an adequate flu or vent system will pro-long your lungs usable life, even on an outside forge.
  15. nicely done, sorry did you do the textured steel or the bronze?
