  10. Mandoro, Just my 2 cents worth...But you may want to check out this page, Texas A&M University - Trademark Licensing Maybe you need to go a slightly different direction with your Idea. Just a thought, you could forge a branding iron incorporating the similar letters and star without Trademark & Licensing problems. Kind of pulls together the fire theme and other elements of the school and could really be a neat item for resale. Who knows, Frats may buy them for part of their initiation rituals. Not that they would use'm mind you, But..... It would be a wild new school tradition you would be starting. Good Luck Tim

  16. Thanks Guys, I hit the top with a flap sander and 3 different grits on a belt sander today. It finished up pretty darn good! Question: Is there serial numbers any where on Hay Budden's? Thought I read that some where. I looked on my large HB and did'nt see any on it either? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks! Tim
  17. This followed me home for $50. Faced Looked pretty good and it had a nice ring, but it was painted heavily on the sides. I brought it home put it on a scale then started to clean off the heavy paint ...turns out to be a nice 85 lb. Hay Budden. SWEEET Now to clean of few little dings and wire wheel it a bit more. Neat little goody hidden away in a old garage, Gotta love dark corners of old garages!!! Tim
  18. Welcome Bottomgottem, Your reference to the Blacksmith at Dollywood caught my attention. My wife and I have made 3 trips to Pigeon forge & Gatlineburg Tn. over the last 2 years. We of course made the stop at Dollywood, little did I realize they had a Blacksmith and Casting shop there. My wife now jokes "Thought it would be Dolly you would be looking up"!!! Nice as that would be, I returned every chance to the Smithy, And like a kid in the candy store get stuck there. Friends and family just leave me and return later to collect me. I would stay so long and ask so many questions The smith himself got to explaining and teaching me how each bend, hot cut, punch, slit and weld was done and then jokingly look over and ask if I was getting it or should he demonstrate it again! He is a very gracious gentlemen and the shop is incredible. Hope you get to spend some more time there. This was a simple Welcome that rambled on, Sorry. So Welcome again, Lots of the same great folks here too, Enjoy! Tim
  19. Mandoro, Talk to an garage or shop that does exhaust work, They can fab that in a minute from scrap. Tim
  20. Hey Jakebob, That casting is neat! "Lady" seems to just jump right out at you! How much time does it take to clean them up after casting? Can you or do you polish them after that? Good luck with it on Ebay, Hope you do well with them. Tim
  21. Decorative & Sculptural Ironwork Tools Techniques & Inspiration Author: Dona Z. Meilach # Pages: 313 ISBN#:0-7643-0790-8 Publisher: Schiffer This book is a fantastic mix of “get to work” no nonsense facts on so many types of metals/ techniques and great artwork. This very usable and practical info on a myriad of subjects is presented in such a simple and easy to grasp way, by an excellent author that it draws you in. The “drool factor” is pretty high on this one, as it is profusely Illustrated, filled with color, black & white photos, drawings, charts and so many examples of beautiful work, some true metal genius! Though admittedly some of the techniques and work are well beyond my meager skill level. It is presented, illustrated and explained in such a way that I never felt they were completely beyond my grasp or future development. It truly is an Inspirational Book for all metal enthusiasts, Most of all Blacksmiths!!! Tim
  22. Candidquality, So Sorry to here. Knee mail on the way from our family to yours and all those affected! Prayers that God will keep you and yours safe and give you strenght to build a new. There are times we just can't understand how God works or why, but it is all in his hands. Have faith, That what he brings you to...He will bring you through! Tim and Anna Marie
  23. “Colonial Wrought Iron, The Sorber Collection” ISBN: 1-879535-16-5 244 PAGES Author: Don Plummer Publisher: Skipjack Press I recently purchased This Book and I found it to be great from two fantastic different perspectives. The first perspective is as a very neat pictorial history of blacksmith Items of very skilled smiths in America especially the east coast. These items are both function/practical as well as decorative and ornate. And as this historical show it is great. But as a second more important perspective for me it is such a fantastic idea generator. As I flipped through I was flooded with ideas of stuff for future projects. It is fantastic!!!! It is also arranged very well. The layouts are grouped so that it is easy to look for specific items and see many examples of the same piece you are looking at. IMHO:D I feel this book would be a great addition to any blacksmiths library. Tim
  24. Thank You Irn. I will just have to take the ride. My curiosity has the best of me. Thanks again Tim
  25. Not really a Problem solving question here...But a question never the less. Has anyone ever heard of a "Southern Steel" anvil possibly for farriers? Some one I know is selling an anvil and says the brand/name is southern steel. As I don't much beyond a few of the more popular names of anvils I was hopping someone could give me a bit of input and advice on this one. I have not gone to see it yet, as it is a bit of a drive. ps..I do not need this anvil but my tool addiction has been spiked and I feel a moment of weakness and the crave has begun:rolleyes: I may have to take the drive just for satisfaction. Tim
