  1. Hello All, I am starting to make more of my own hardy tools & jigs "And Loving It!" They are not great but they are getting better and seem to work pretty well. Looking for Ideas and a bit of direction I would really love to see some pics and Ideas for hardy tools and other neat tools and gadgets I can forge or forge & weld up for my blacksmithing. I got inspiration to make a different bending fork when I saw a blue print by "Irn" & "Baby Anvil" making a fire poker.(Check it out) The poker was Great, but you almost take for granted and miss a cool side bending fork in one of the pics, Thanks Irn, I'd love to see more!!!!! Following that, I thought it would be cool and a real help to mine as well as others learning curve to see peoples innovations, ideas and creations for hardy tools, tooling etc for the hardy or what ever. Its a new addiction, making tools for a project...it seems just as great as making the project itself and you have it for future stuff. Any way (Sorry tend to ramble) I know IFI has some in blueprints but it would be a great to see new pics and revisit old ones. Thanks for sharing TIM
  2. Irn, That is awesome, I am still laughing!!! Very Very Good!!!! Tim

  4. Hey Skunkriv, Gave me a good laugh picturing the look on peoples faces. Wondering what you were up too with your Mini guillotine. Even better with a tail hanging off of it! But I got to say you also had my wheels turning! Tim
  5. Please, I would love to see a blue print or a least a quick sketch of the guillotine for squirrels. That sounds like a lot of fun and takes care of the over population problem around here! We have worked on many ideas but this has a strange attention getting quality that I am oddly enough drawn to! hehe Thanks Tim
  6. Welcome Mrs Irn, I know you mentioned you don't smith, But...Maybe this is the start of your Blacksmith adventure. With Irn as a teacher I am sure it will be great. Hope to chat at some point, Take Care. Tim
  7. HWoolridge. Thanks. I do not realy have the money to spend but have always wanted a coal forge to work on. (Maybe the tool envy thing in my genetics!) It seems to be in good shape but asking price is about 1000.00 but he has graciously worked his way down to 350.00 which stills seems like he is selling GOLD. Zealous Tool envy or no, I can't see it !!!
  8. My wood lathe turns counter clockwise. It turns into the cutting edge of the chisel as it turns...Assuming you have the motor to your left as you work. I did here of reversible lathes that use a different thread of chuck & jaws, Something about sanding in one direction tends to lay the fiber of the wood down, reversing the rotation cuts the wood fiber the other direction.(kind of makes sense) I have only used a wood lathe not a metal...YET...! TIM
  9. what would a riveters forge with a hand cranked # 40 Champion blower be worth? (fair market value) It seems to be in very good shape and blower works well. I am hoping to get a ball park Idea from some one who knows...I don't have have a clue! But am very interested in one for sale here, Just don't want to get taken! And should I be looking for specifics on closer inspection? Please any help or advice more than welcome. Thanks TIM
  10. Thanks for Sharing Woody, Great stuff! TIM

  16. Thank you Brian, There is an anvil or two in a small garage in New Jersey you can visit if you make it out this way. The wife Loves having company for dinner as well!(great Italian cook) You mention Hobbist....I was at first very intimidated by all the knowledgable folks, as I am a true amatuer. But I have bitten by the bug and really strive to learn and grow. I as I learned more from this sight I was struck by how many were not proffessional Smiths but just people who really enjoy this work and are willing to share and help others learn. That seems to be try of most people in Blacksmithing. Again thank you for the great blueprints as well as the invite. Hope to visit someday, have a cold one and learn a trick or two at the anvil. Have a Great New Years TIM

  22. I think it is a feeling of Creation & Learning, It seems to me that I spend time in a kitchen creating food, or a lathe turning wood or a forge hammering iron for many reasons. Though each maybe different, it always ends up being a need to create or the refining of that creation and absorbing Knowledge to grow further. It may make us feel good inside or accomplish a host of other tasks, even a means to an end, but we like to create & learn and it has many other rewards. It's like a strange jewel with many facets: A Time to make something, not BUY it! A tangible image or expresion of a our thought or feeling. An Idea concieved in your mind but forged by your body. The longing for approval from those around us. A journey of learning connecting us to ages past and generations future. A journey of learning what we didnt know yesterday and want more of in a thousand tommorows. Sharing some bit of knowledge or insight or recieving some valuable morsel. A time to think, unwind and clear our minds, let the world dissappear and the reality of the heat and the noise and the strength needed to shape this element put us back in to touch...with us. Time to create a gift to show a dear one how much we think of them A time to work out frustration or Anger Making something for someone who wishes they could, but sadly can not. Maybe a momentary glimpse into the mind of an artist Or A time to sweat and feel good about what we are blessed with. What ever the reason of the momment, it sure feels good. Though many items may never be as refined as I would like, and some other persons creation be better or worse, they are still created by me with my hands and using the Mind that God Gave me and I LOVE that. TIM
  23. Ian, The videos are great, can't wait to see more! Tim
