  1. My only criticism would be is that does not look like a viking sword. it looks japanese
  2. Thanks Sam and Wayne. I would love to visit some weekend. I don't think I'm going to be able to make the conference though. I will have to see. I will check out the Bristol forge too. Thanks.
  3. I just moved to the tricity area in tn and would like to meet smiths in my area. I live in Jonesboro tn.
  4. The brittleness would be to severe for either of these uses. The mail would splinter under any hit from and weapon. The plate would get stress fractures from the same weapons. Also plate might transfer the impact from a blunt weapon to the wearrer but it spreads it out over the body. You might want to check out armourarchives for more specifics on how armor is made and the propertys of the best types of steel for it. There are a few SCA armours on this site but alot of these questions have been answered over there in one form or another.
  5. WraithsNinja If you include you location that might help a bit. There are a few scadians on this forum who have documentation you can look at if you are in their area.
  6. I buy refractory cement from my local building supply for my forge liner. I don't remember the name of it right now when I get home Ill check. It is rated at 3k degrees and does not need sand or anything added just water. it about $40 us per 50 lbs. If I remember correctly.
  7. It looks like my 168 lb mousehole though in better shape :). From the research Ive done on mine I would say it was made after the 1820's because of the prickle hole. Though my brain could be addled I've been at work all day.
  8. Thank you very much for the replies. I just figured out a new use for my squirrel cage blowers and will be welding outside with good cross breeze and my blowers.
  9. I was going through the safty tips and decided to look for a respirator for when I start welding. I found alot of disposable respirators but none that were perminent with replaceable filters. Does anyone know if they make these for metal fumes?
  10. It looks nice. Its missing its spring though. That should be an easy fix though.
  11. Thank you Thomas. I actually have see that piece in person and did not realize it was mild steel

  14. This is probably a dumb question but. Is it possable to repouse steel. I have an idea for a project and I want to know if it is possable. I just bought a 1979 AMC Spirit and want to do some raising on the body pannels. To the best of my knowladge they are steel Im doing some research to find out exactly what kind right now. Just though id ask. Thanks
  15. I have not been on in a while. I have been looking for a job which was not fruitfull here in Alabama. This economy is horrable. I decided to join the Army which I ship to Basic on Aug 24th. I am going in as a 21c which is a bridge crewman. It seems like a realy interesting job. I was hoping on machineist but it was not available. oh well that will come soon enough. I just figured I would give an update if anyone wondered what happened to me . I am still looking for a temp job till I ship so I can pay some bills 4 months with no pay is hard.
  16. Just thought I would let you all know I have moved from hagerstown, MD to Newton, AL. If anyone is in the area please send me a PM.:D
  17. I agree with Thomas. Heck I would love to get my hands on some old lumber for some projects I have in mind.
  18. There is no realy good time to be laid off but being laid off at christmas just lets us know Scrooge is still alive and well. You and your family are in my thoughts. I like to think when something ends that it is just opening the way for something better.
