  1. You could probably buy one if you stop smokin' a cigaret every two seconds
  2. For that price I'd buy an Octagon and a decent air-compressor and use the spare bucks to buy enough steel till the end of my life
  3. Hey, KTB you forgot the link to the trial run video
  4. What are the stainless grades you put in that cube Ric ? Will you show us the pattern revealed soon ? Btw, lovely hammer, I'm terribly jealous...

    press idea

Perhaps a bit loose on the guides if you work off center, but it would be easy to modify, nice find

If you've got a decent air compressor, you can cheaply make an air-over-hydraulic mini-press 20T rated... An air operated 20T jack is 79 bucks at Harbor-freight... Direct link to the right jack And here is a link to a thread started by T.A. Toler at Don Fogg's where we discussed about our different revs... Air operated Mini Presses Mine is the rusty one at the end of the first page...
  7. I remember a guy (MP me) who did some barrels the old way with actual tool steel and can't even think why it shouldn't work... And yes, it needs to be improoved over-loaded to be safe with regular loads... Excuse my English, I'm French :P
  8. A side-set, a punch upper die and a bottom die with a hole, a pair of slightly crown dies to weld 'mascus billets easily without trappin'flux... And you will make more as soon as you need more And as we say in France, have a good fire ;)
  9. Broken while lifting it Don't run it dry A beautiful baby, I'm terribly jealous
  10. Very nice work Mini-Blacksmith, Madmike from France ;)
  11. You can also weld the top die upside down on the bench then fit it to the ram, slide the ram down to clamp the lower die on its mounting plate already fitted to the anvil and weld it aligned under the top one ;)
  12. Cool, know you can smash some steel and show us Have fun ;)
  13. Happy for you Philip Now we all want to see a video
  14. Happy for you Philip Are you going to try it as is or will you wait until it is safely anchored on a cured concetre fundation... I surely could not wait anymore...
  15. Happy for you... And as we say here, have a good fire ;)
  16. I'm very happy for you 'Uncle Clay' Don't forget to share pics while sharing enthusiasm Have a lot of fun with James and be careful on the road Oh I almost forgot... How much ram ?
  17. Can't remember exactly the price, do you want me to call them and ask ?
  18. Of Course Matei, but buying a new one is 'unafordable', you can find them used and in good shape and it surely move some metal for a 18kg ram Do you know the french 'Martinet Vernet' and the 'compagnon' two other mechanical we find here rusty and scrapy but which work like a dream once rebuilt...
  19. Buying, I would go for an Anyang, very strong machine, still made and improved, very popular so troubleshooting is not a problem ask James Johnson or John N here, they are two Anyang dealers, US and UK and can tell you everything you want to know about these cuties The self contained you've posted above is a Spanish hammer, isn't it ? The info are in French but... See your other post, I've added some Italian self-contained ;)
  20. Some other Italian hammers, but self-contained Photo of hammer and Website copyrighted photo removed and a link placed into the text.
